Hey guys,

I've been selling a bunch of stuff off to pay some bills. I'd like to sell this 327 sbc motor i put together for a 65 pick-up which I've since sold, everything on it is brand new except the short block. Here's a link to the craigslist add. Could be good for someone needing a motor for their challenge car. $1450.00

In reply to 914Driver:

Lol! I've had it on craigslist for a couple weeks now and those are the responses I've been getting.

No machine work to the bottom end or anything at all actually. I pulled it out of a truck that ran great, I was doing a restore of it and then divorce happened, so this block has been following me around for about two years (I just recently put it together though, about a month ago and then nixed the project it was going in. )

It's not like I'm not willing to work with people on the price or that a trade for something cool is even out of line. I just get irritated with everyones attitudes.

As if I'm so desperate I'm going to jump at their wad of dirty cash they just pulled out of their butt crack, lol.

A little tip for you. Give more details. If you post on CL and get questions, and then post the same thing here and get questions...it's a pretty good indication that your ad is lacking detail. [edit...reading again, I think you're saying you're getting crazy offers for trades and low-ball cash...not responses about what was done to the bottom end, machining-wise.]

"Everything is brand new except the shortblock." What does this mean? First off...how much is there? Are there heads (I assume there are)? Is there an intake manifold? A distributor?

What all is new? Brand new head castings?

I personally am shopping for 327 or 350 engines...but I'd expect to pay in the $200-$400 range for something like I think you are describing. But...given the lack of details, I could be way off.

Something to think about: I, like many buyers of used engines, consider it a core engine (candidate for rebuild) unless I can see/hear it run (without smoke or bad noises).

I'm not trying to knock your engine, your thread, or your price (ok...maybe the price)...just giving some insight from the other side of the equation.

No...I hadn't been able to visit the link yet (filters). However, it seems like I inaccurately jumped to the conclusion that you were posting the same text on the thread here that you had posted in your CL ad. My bad on that part.

Thanks, Clem

From the ad:

I'm selling a 327 small block chevy motor that you can drop in and drive. Everything on it is brand new on the top end, bottom end is in excellent shape. Heads are brand new 62cc double hump style cast iron heads. I've listed all the new parts out below with the summit racing parts numbers and the prices (this is a fantastic deal). This motor is turn key and ready to drop in. If you hurry I can throw in a starter and flexplate for an automatic transmission; I want to get this motor sold asap. Call or text Joe at 559-623-7408. Thanks!

Note: I'm not a meth-head; I also have a job. So please, if you intend to call and say something like... "Whats up bro, I've got $1200 bucks...CASH...right now if you'll drop the price down..." or "Sorry dude...the best I can come up with is $1100..." then don't call. Also, if you don't know if this motor will fit in your car, do not call. Oh, I almost forgot, no text's messages like this please "Wil u tak trad? I hav Englis Bulldawg puppies." I don't want your stupid ghetto puppies and you should learn how to spell. Having said all that, I'm actually really nice and want to get this motor sold. So call me up with reasonable questions. (oh yeah, it has a stock cam, it will run strong but it's not built as a "race" motor, just a nice semi-powerful reliable driver). Thanks!

I'm with Clem, more info on the bottom end would justify the price, but Gigilojoe, you must understand by now that we're cheap.

Your parts add up to $900, that means a short block of unknown history with no machining or new stuff is worth $500.

I'm not being critical, just giving information to help your sale. More information makes for fewer questions; miscommunication causes duress.

Do not like advertisers/sellers who berate me for possibly being like every other deadbeat tirekicker out there.

I gots no bulldog pups...I gots no meth.

I ams cheap...and your engine ain't...so I'll pass it by.

Really...asking about $1,500 for what you have and telling people not to offer $1,200? Sorry dude, but you'll NEVER sell that engine with that ad. Fact.

Lol, ok guys, you might be right. I added that other part not directed at anyone on here, but the people calling me and giving me lowball offers with attitude. Don't take offense anyone here, lol. I appreciate the feedback, I came to my price based on the shortblock being worth $500.

Shortblock $500 Heads (brand new) $500 All the other stuff brand new on the block $1200 ($1300 if you count the corvette manifolds)

Thats what I base the price on. I'm thinking that your right in no one wants to spend that much, I might be better off selling the short block, heads, and misc parts seperate. Thanks for the feedback though.

One thought...

My father had a 327 block that ended up being out of a chevy II. That thing was a serious collectors item. Something about the way the oil filter land was notched for easier oil filter cannister removal in a chevy II. Anyway...if your 327 has anything special about it...it's, well...um...special. Could add some $$ to the sales price if marketed to the right crowd.

My father traded his good running, but well-used engine for a completely rebuild longblock.

Goodwill gesture, engage!

that 327 would be a great motor for an S10 V8 build

I just paid $125 for a longblock from the junkyard (well it was an alfa V6), but a 350 would have cost the same. I also have a complete L98 tpi that cost under $200. So, really $100 for an unrebuilt short block of a common engine is pretty close to what someone can just go get on at the junkyard for.

In the same vein of what Clem was saying, you might check the block numbers to see if it's anything unusual. When I was a kid my dad had a '70 Nova that ran really well. Dad was told when he bought it that it was a 307, but it was the best-running 307 he had ever been around. After my dad got rid of it, the friend he sold it to decoded the serial number and found out that it was a 300hp 327 out of a 'vette. That was worth some real money, even in 1989.

It's nothing too special, it's a 68 327 passenger car/truck block, two bolt main. I wouldn't say it's common, but it's not rare as hens teeth either. Good luck finding one in a junkyard around here, all we have is 80's trucks. If you want a core only and plan on doing a full rebuild, then yea, the block origin really dosn't matter. Then again, I'm not trying to sell it as that. I can also see how many would view it as a core only without being able to see it run though...
