Here is the situation. Brother-in-law has 4-door sedan Ford Contour (NOT SVT) that ran funny and then had oil issues or lack of oil.

He has to move and tows it the the in-laws since they are nice people. It has been sitting since November and I have asked what is wrong with the car......"not sure, oil low, maybe the engine is shot, has 150,000 miles, 4-cylinder, automatic".

So I told him he could sell it as a parts car on ebay.....but he doesn't really know what to do.

So if I list a parts car on ebay, with the understanding the engine is probably shot; what kinda value is there in this car? Rust is minimum. Interior is probably fair to average.

If it was a four dour Datsun 510; maybe more money, but a 1990-something Ford Contour?

Someone out there will be deranged enough to give him some money for it.

If I am going to clean it up and sell it; I am going to hit him up for some of the profits.

Contact one of your local "I'll buy any car for $400" guys that are on just about every craigslist and sell it to them. They'll usually give you pretty close to scrap value and they'll come get it. Parting out non-enthusiast cars sucks. Trust me.

For a 4-cylinder, automatic very little value if it is not running.

List it on craigslist which is free before you pay to list it on ebay.
The advise given so far is solid. It aint worth much.

I'd be paying someone to take it out of my lawn.
