Top Gear reference. They really don't like the Marina.

My father told me that my grandfather had one of these brand new. I never knew what they looked like, and now that I do I am concerned my grandfather had poor taste in vehicles.

I like it, looks like an old Datsun.

Only problem is that the old Datsun is most likely a better car.

I don't know. My FIL had an old Datsun that looked just like that Marina, and it was not worthy of the term POS

That was in the 80's, and my wife still refuses to own a Japanese car.

BTW, that's a flattering pic of a Marina

One part of that car had some class - the door handles were used on the first two generations of Range Rovers. By appointment to the whole Royal Family.

You know what, they really were E36 M3ty cars in many ways, but quite strong for the time. My father had several as company cars int eh 70's, at least they were the more powerful TC (Twin Carb) version that had a whopping 11 hp or something. My father was up in Scotland on a business trip with a college, he (father) was napping in the passenger seat and the other guy was driving. They got run off the motorway road by an articulated lorry (semi over here) and rolled down a 50' embankment. The car was completely destroyed. Both survived although my father was off work then at home for several months recovering. Seatbelts and a strong shell save them both.
