fairly limited production, similar hp ratings as porsche 911s of the same vintage and not all that mysterious to DIY. Not all that far from climbing in value. E9s might be a decent predictor of future values.
I suspect that the "17" wheels are the OE metric ones that are something like 16 5/8 that getting tires for are impossible now and thus you are doing them a favor and taking them.

Those and w126 Mercedes coupes are both worthless to most people if they aren't nice. A 6 series is worth less than half what an e30 is from what I have seen.
