NM but somewhat affiliated...

Here are the remains of one of my former project cars. The new owner pulled the drivetrain but doesn't have the time to finish the project. This drivetrain has a lot of custom fabricated parts.

Would this bolt up to any larger Suzuki engines, and handle the power? 2.0L 4cyl from the Vitara is the first one that comes to mind, or the Swift GT/I DOHC?

It will bolt up to the 1.3 Samurai engine. It will also bolt up to the 1.6 with an adapter. I'm not sure about the 2.0.

Check out trail tough website. It should say if the 2.0 will bolt up

It will bolt to the 1300 dohc, won't bolt to a 1.6 or 2 L

Would he or you happen to still have the custom drive shaft that goes from sammy trans to miata rear?

In reply to Toyman01:

Well that's certainly cheap enough...

In reply to petegossett:

That's the cheapest engine adapter kit I've ever seen.

Another thing. The 2L was available in the Vitara with a 5 speed, in 2wd and 4wd. If you wanted to use the 2L, you just need the transmission to match.

I'm keeping an eye out for a rusted-out or wrecked 2-door/2wd/5spd/2.0L Vitara/Tracker for a possible Locost project. I haven't had any luck finding one, but I if I can track one down locally for cheap it would be hard to pass up. I think it would be easier than trying to custom build a frame to accept a Miata rear, custom driveshaft if using a stick axle with a Miata engine/trans.

In reply to mfvmx:

The seller indicates the driveshaft is included in the sale.

As I recall the driveshaft was built from yokes harvested from a Sammy and Volvo driveshaft. The tube is chromoly and was purchased from McMaster Carr.

Here is the original build thread with details on how stuff was assembled. G10 Miata build thread
