This car is hideous, even in bad light with oil-smeared glasses.  It has a decades-old racing patina that cannot be imitated with sledgehammers, a frame machine, an unlimited supply of rattle cans and some demented "Hoonigan" teenagers.  Brief history here:  http://www.roadkill.com/hella-sweet-lemons-car-week-yellow-submarine-honda-crx/

It's also very well sorted -- balanced and quick.  Stripped to the bone, though there's another 40 lbs in windshield wipers and a smaller battery that could go.  Lots of modifications, but will only disclose to those who show up to look at it with cash, as there are some gems beneath the dirt, dents, corrosion and cracks.

  • Ran 2:08's at Buttonwillow (capable of 2:06's with a fresh set of Rival S's)
  • Ran 2:06's (in traffic) at Sonoma (capable of 2:04's, maybe 2:03's)
  • Posted 8th fastest laptime of 119 cars in last 24 Hours of Lemons race September 30, 2018 despite being a "Class B" car driven by me and my goofball buddies
  • Outpaced a McLaren MP4-12C (and a Ferrari F12) at a recent track day, but then, the not-so-poor guy was just starting out.  I hope he wasn't so discouraged that he chooses to never return

Nearly bulletproof (maintenance suggestions will be provided).  Datalogs, videos, part #s used in build all provided to buyer, many past race/event results, as well as contact info of the last 2 teams who have raced it, so you have some hope of support (lol) and know its pedigree.

Safe as can be reasonably expected from a 30yo vintage race car.  Full cage installed.  2017 belts, window nets, fire extinguisher and related safety upgrades.  2017 fuel cell (good for 4 more years).  Braided lines throughout.   New brake calipers, rotors, fresh Motul 600, recent bearings on all corners.  2 high-amp battery cut-offs wired in series.  Good seat with seat brace fits drivers 5'6"-6'1" comfortably.  Fresh tires and pressures for good balance.

Will be very competitive in 2019 Chump/Champ Car (and Lucky Dog?) endurance racing with bolt-in / minor fuel mods.  Outstanding driver training car as it requires momentum driving, yet quite forgiving at the limit.

Show up with proper driving apparel and run your first event.  Needs nothing other than a new home as I'm moving our California-based racing team to the East Coast.  However, if you want an "arrive and drive" experience, I'm willing to discuss hosting your first event (race or HPDS) with it, getting you through tech inspection, even supplying you with extra drivers (they're willing to pay) if you need some to make a team.  I just can't keep trying to run the car from 2500miles away or I wouldn't sell.  I considered bringing it east and running a 2-car team, but that's a Plan B -- I already have what I need for an East Coast team, so I'm asking less $ than the cost to ship it!

Beyond the $1989 price for negotiation:

  • Good spares (14 or so wheels, various tires, body panels, rebuilt head, new radiator, new Brembo rotors, new bearings, uprights, tools, jack/stands, dry break Fuel Safe fuel jugs, Mobil1 oil, 12+ filters, axles, night-racing Hella lights, etc.)
  • Datalogging and playback system (Harry's on an iPhone, Racelogic VBox, GoPros, laptop)
  • Full driver cooling system (Coolshirt bags, lines, quick-change cooler, about 40 Nordic-freeze ice bags, drink bottles with one-way lines, cage mounted drink bottle holder)
  • Full fire suppression system (installed and nearly universally required in 2019)
  • 8.5' x 24' V-nose all aluminum Haulmark ALX enclosed trailer  <-- will be sold last after all other parts!

Where's "east" for you? - I'm in TN - did the same big move, SF, CA -> TN. Bring it over here ;)

Thanks...agreed!  More or less a free car with the price of the fuel cell/system, the wheels/tires on it, and the reusable safety equipment.

More fun than a barrel of monkeys (only one monkey at a time really fits in this barrel).

Home is Virginia.  I already have (3) trailers and a bunch of race cars and projects underway at home, so everything that's for sale in Cali is more or less a replica of what I already have.  I didn't feel like shipping stuff to Cali to support the team when we started a year or so ago (10 hpds/race events ago with this car!), so we bought local.  Now I don't feel like transporting it cross country to have duplicates.  Further, running a multi-car endurance racing team is more of a responsibility than a fun past-time, so the sale makes the most sense.

Bump -- because the car's been bumped before!  I saw nothing scarier (or more fun!) on Halloween night than this yellow rocket.

Happy to work out a package that gets someone on a track cheap and reliably, as well as the hard data to study and advance their driving skills!

Forgive me if I'm asking a question that is answered previously or in the ad verbiage: Is the car still in the SF Bay Area? I'm in San Jose and when I read this previously I thought it was already in Virginia...

Hi - the car is currently in locked-up storage at Buttonwillow Raceway in central California, about 100miles or so north of LA.  Same with the trailer and 95% of the spares.  Sorry for any confusion!  It's still for sale as well, as most inquiries have been rent-a-ride's or specific parts we have that I want to give first option to buy to the car's buyer.

Thanks for the question and hope this clarifies.

Bump again -- heck, the car has been bumped a few times, so why not bump the for sale listing?  ;)

Happy 2019!  Will soon make a go/no-go decision on running it another year, so pass on it at the risk of being passed by it.  ;)

Pick it up and head to Thunder Hill for a Champ Car race in 10 days!  Will be race ready, with fresh fluids, filters, pressures set, etc.  Need an extra driver for the event?  Let me know, I might be able to supply one of those as well.

Yes, am offering the car again for sale, after the team used it a bit in 2019.  It's still a big challenge to commute cross-country, so I prefer a new home for it rather than cart it back east as the tow cost is more than my asking price for the car.  I've already begun my next car project/team on the East Coast and hope to make the 2019 Virginia International Raceway Champ race in August!

There aren't many <$2000 race-ready cars for sale anywhere on the planet and this might be the quickest!
