I truly feel spoiled living in FL now.  Even my truck that's from VA isn't that rusty and it's 6 years older. AMAZING that a modern vehicle rusted that badly. The interior vs exterior is amazing.

So, for those wondering- based on what OP is saying, it probably needs a PCv refresh, and the turbo is probably about dead. Mine did the same thing. But, for a few bucks,  this thing could be a helluva sleeper. That rust will have everyone convinced it's not an ms6. Glws, is a good deal.

That amount of rust makes me sad.

I've never seen rust like that except my uncles farm truck with no floor below the gas pedal

To the guys who are amazed by the rust, you obviously don't live in salt country!

Mazda's get bit by the rust bug badly up here. Closely followed by most of the other Japanese cars. German cars seem to be highly resistant, but they eventually succumb.

A few years back when I eventually bought my Golf, I was looking at options - Focus, Mazda 3's, etc. The worst by far were the Mazda 3's. Every one that I looked at had major rear 1/4 rust.

That generation of Mazda 3's and 6's were particularly susceptible to rust. Supposedly it was an issue with the way the bodies were galvanized that was fixed in 2008.5. I wonder if the AWD system would fit under a wagon shell as I have no idea if the wagon shell was manufactured differently than the sedan. There's some running sub 3000 dollar examples of the 6 wagon out there.

I’m wondering if the speed6 and wagon have different floor pans. If not a speed6 into wagon swap would be pretty straightforward with a donor like this. I’ve not really been impressed by the duratec 3.0 in my wagon.

But could it fit into the Jag xtype wagon?

OTOH rear wheel arch replacements are 70 bucks a piece as long as the rot is confined to that area.

I'm trying to tell if your joking or not. But that would be an epic fly and drive though. I drive it to work every night 60mi round trip. I just took it to Bowling Green KY and back 900mi round trip and it did just fine. I topped up the oil before I left and was 1/2 qt low when I got home. Got 27 mpg running about 78mph the whole way. The tires would be the only ify factor. I take it slow in snow and heavy rain. They are just getting into the wear bar in the thread.

I just bought a 2004 wagon and immediately wanted to find exactly this for a swap. Too bad I don't have the cash to pick this up, or I'd be buying it.
