I had a very close friend reach out to me today as "his car guy friend" and ask me to help him with selling his '01 Audi TT Quattro. Located in Shaker Heights.
I think he will let it go for exactly $2k. This is what he wrote me.
2001 Audit TT - 116,539 miles as of 6/6/16
Overall the car rides and drives great, still lots of fun. Looks sharp from 10 feet / 20 MPH away, a detail would make it look pretty darn good. No rust, it has not been driven in the snow or salt in the 10 years that I have owned it.
Electrical issues:
· Top does not go up and down (happened after being out in a heavy rain)
· Rear wind guard windshield does not go up
· There is not ringing / signal if lights are left on after car has been shut off
· Front display does not work (there was recall and class action lawsuit about this issue - see one of the pics)
· Key fobs do not work remotely anymore
Air conditioning does not work / may be a leak in system I was able to recharge it with one of the DIY chargers last year and that worked great.
Body work:
· Large scratch on passenger door – probably can be buffed out to minimize issue
· Top has leaks were back window has delaminated from roof
· Mold / mildew on inside of convertible top very light - could be removed w/some scrubbing w/bleach.
· Drivers seat has tear in leather – drivers side - there is a pic of the issue
· Interior body panels inside of trunk and convertible top retraction area need to be re-installed properly, they are in loosely right now (minor type issue)
· Passenger side interior armrest panel need to be re-glued
Exhaust:
· May need work / funny smell when driving it recently - but is seemed to go away - could be a storage smell/etc.
If interested, contact me (jwelsh02...yahoo...) and I will put you in touch with the owner.
I'd jump at that if it were a coupe. Still looks like a decent deal.
He's owned it since new or very close to new. Likely has been dealership serviced whenever it needed.
He really likes it and his 8 year old really likes it too but I think he just wants to move on. He's the type who trades in rather than sell himself but since there is no immediate replacement planned, he just wants to sell it with little hassle and little waste of his precious time.
Looks like a great deal. Wish I had the time/$$$ to snag it up.
Question (to help other potential buyers): Stated as "top does not go up or down" yet it is show both up AND down. {Is there a manual bypass for putting it up or down?} Is the top stuck in the up postion, or stuck in the down position?
Good question. I just cut and paste what he sent to me.
The statement of top won't go up seems to mean that the top can only be lifted manually. Does not work electronically as intended. Seems also that it does not seal water tight and water has reached the electronics that lift the top.
The photos above were all taken in one sitting and I believe all taken yesterday, June 6th

Likewise!
TTs apparently got the good Audi rust prevention, I haven't seen one with so much as rust coloring anywhere on the shell.

My work life blew up this week while fighting a summer cold. I have done nothing but work and go straight to bed for a couple of days. Today is the first day I fell better. I'm finishing up here at the desk and I will reach out to you tonight (got your email.)
As it stands, Mark is in 1st position.
Paul H in 2nd position.
Stan, I did not get your PM (try direct email instead) but you're in 3rd.
I'll keep things updated here on the board.
Ok I'll watch this posting but not holding my breath.
Someone buy this before July......I can't imagine the fun that could be had by one of these as a dedicated winter beater.
Man, I don't even like VAG products, and this is a good deal. Might make for a nice "Wheeler Dealers" build, or a cheap autocrosser. Someone please buy this so the rest of us can live vicariously through you.

Still waiting ............
THE DEAL IS DEAD.
So sorry. I feel bad for having built up hopes and dreams.
Though slow to get back to me, the seller has admitted that he will be keeping the car. He seems to have gotten over a rant of "I just want it gone" after the realization that I could likely have it gone for him quickly.
Again, sorry for the failed hopes and dreams.
Deals like this are really out there you just some times have to kiss a couple frogs before finding a prince.
This one is clearly just a frog.
