Threadjack - but I always thought Carmel, IN's tag line of "Be in Carmel" just sounded way too sticky and gooey, especially with how high-class and somewhat pompous the town & many of its residents come off as.

I'm not sure that it's actually a freeze plug, depending on how much that guy's mechanic actually knows about BMWs. There are a few likely coolant transfer pipes under the intake that are relatively common leak points; I'd guess those are running down the back of the block. Could be wrong, though.
There's also a cooling plate at the rear of the block behind the flywheel/flexplate. Mine drips, but it's an automatic so I pretend it isn't there.
