931s had almost no value for a long time. Even less than the 70s 924s. Now they are going up. Mixed opinion. It's an early turbo car =cool. Zero parts and almost zero reliability = not so cool.
I remember working on these when they were fairly new. Strange mix of parts. Audi 100ls engine and transmission vw rabbit front suspension super beetle rear suspension and more vibration than all 3 put together.

In truth, a 924S is an all around better car than the 931 - more reliable, more galvanized, and I think a bit faster stock for stock anyhow. Plus pretty much all the parts are still available (and mostly inexpensive) and crossover with the many, many VWs and 944s in pick-and pull yards these days....
The 931 really has only 3 real plusses over a 924S: NACA scoop in the hood. Vented front valence. And turbo whine :)
924s is a much, much better car. More reliable, much faster and worth more. Faster than a same year 944.

79 and later had their bodies fully galvanized.
It still has its limits, especially if damaged or subjected to a ton of salty air.

You’re not paying attention, but it’s ok. Your comments aren’t based on today’s world, just your experiences of the past.
The 924/931 world is full of folks working to make new parts that the factory or other suppliers no longer do.
still, many owners don’t or can’t make the necessary investment to keep them running, but that’s a separate issue.

I don’t know about faster, you’d have to define what that means. The turbo car has an advantage due to weight.
The CIS is a problem, but so are early 911’s and many others that use that same system. You can work around it or ditch for any of a number of EFI solutions.
i find the 2.5L boring and uninspiring, especially in a sports car. I don’t know what Porsche was thinking.
