Man those seem cheap. Are the modern mini’s money pits?

They can be. First generation cars have a tendency to need superchargers replaced, non-"S" transmissions are weak in the early cars, and some other issues. I've been driving my "S" for 11 years and I've spent some money on it, but I'm still enjoying the car.
