I've got a 1972 Volkswagen super beetle that has been in the family since it was almost new. It was also given to me as my first car, back in 1984. I learned to drive in it when I was 10. It has been parked since 1995, but I started the engine about three years ago. About two months ago, I was diagnosed with stage four brain Cancer, so I don't know if I will ever get to the project. At this point, I just want it to go to a good home. Someone who will actually do something with it. It comes with a lot of parts.

What.

More importantly, how are we going to help your dream Porsche finished (I think you wanted to build a boxster with a 911 turbo motor - forget the exact details)?

In reply to Robbie:

You've got a fantastic memory! At this point, I'm just going to autocross the wheels off of it, and if I get lucky, then I'll start working on that. Chances are, it won't be a true 996 turbo engine. If that dream comes true, it will likely be a regular 9963.4 (M96) that I will upgrade with aftermarket turbos. At this point, on the track, the car isn't what's holding me back from being faster anyway, so while I'm battling this E36 M3, I will keep practicing my racecraft.

Any pictures of said Beetle? How rusty is it? Pics to cdirado83 at gmail.com please. Good luck with the fight. FYI this would be for my 10 year old son as a project for him and I if I were to buy it from you. If it's really Herbie it should have a 53 on the doors. My son's hockey number is 53.

Id be interested, can I get some pics? I do love racing bugs and it would be happily parked next to my Baja Bug and Squareback.

So, Brian where is the car currently, and when is a good time to come check it out?

I live in South eastern MA in the Plymouth area.

In reply to Mazdax605:

It's got the '53' on the front trunk and on the doors. She's pretty rusty, but doesn't present that way. The front frame head, where the lower control arms attach, rusted through and is why the car was parked in late 1995. The heater channels should be done, too; they were patched in the early 1980s, to the standard of the day. All that said, the car comes with a better/less rusty frame/pan that would at least make the thing drivable. I had the engine started about four years ago.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but it seems like on 2/1 Herbie is getting adopted by a man whom I really believe is the right home. My sense is that, if my old Bug is ever to see the road again, this will be the guy who makes it happen

So it seems like Herbie went to the right home. Or for Needham seems like the most likely man to make a Herbie ride again. I really appreciate that he ended up with it

M030, hang in there, the technology in treatment of brain cancer is progressing every month it seems. My fiancée was diagnosed with a Stage 3 Anaplastic astrocytoma back in 2014. It was at her 6 month post-op appointment with the surgeon, that he told us if she were to present then with the same symptoms, the surgery would have been totally different due to advances in surgical techniques. I'll think about you every day just as I do with her.

Have you considered cannibus oil or hemp oil as a treatment? There are also clinical trials using a strain of the Polio virus to combat the cancer cells.

Best of luck and never stop hoping....

Oh yea, I'll pass on this post to some VW friends.

I was very happy to read this after e-mailing with you over the summer and sending you to talk with John's air cooled. I wanted this project but just couldn't take on another myself at this point.
