Hey GRM,
I picked this up a little over two months ago with plans to turn it into an HPDE car. It had been modded by the previous owner and was run in SCCA autocross competition for the better part of the last decade, usually in BSP. The car ran great when I test drove it, and ran great on the drive home. It even still runs great when the battery is charged. Seriously, it's fast and badass.
It's major fault (that I didn't realize at the time) was that the charging system isn't working right. For some reason the battery will just run itself down and the car will eventually stop responding to throttle inputs due to the low voltage. Then it will stop running entirely until you can hook it back up to a trickle charger and let everything come back. Then it's a badass again.
The body is in OK shape, though it has a number of scuffs, bruises, and other imperfections. I'd rate it as a 5/10, but I'm picky. The biggest scuffs are on the driver-rear (PO says he backed into a pole), on the driver-front bumper (no idea) and on the driver-front fender (my father in law scraped the fender with his car). Not perfect, but looks nice from ~10 ft. Would clean up well with some bribes to the 2018 challenge judges.
I've just purchased a new house, my MR2 decided to eat it's differential bearings, and a few other personal expenses have come up, so the RX7 really has to go. I don't have time to take it on, so I'm letting it go for what I have into it, which isn't much.
Here is my initial thread on the car: https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/soi-just-bought-an-rx-7-turbo-ii-school-me/139473/page1/

I've taken it to a local Mazda shop for diagnosis of the charging system, which they attribute to a bad wiper control computer (?) - basically there's a relay somewhere in the system that has gone bad and isn't allowing things to charge. I'm no electrical expert, so I'll defer that problem to whatever challenge team takes this on. I may be able to replace this part ebfore the next owner purchases it, but I can't guarantee it will fix the charging issue.
As it sits, the car doesn't run because of it. That said, I'm being honest when I say it runs really well when charged. It's the perfect challenge car for a team with some electrical know how.
The car passed emissions with no problem when I had it running, and will come with an unused Colorado emissions slip. Carfax is clean as well and can be provided to potential buyers. Comes with a stack (2"+ thick) of receipts and service records from the previous owner.
Give me SOLD and it's yours. That leaves $18 to buy yourself dinner on the way home.
Open to trades, particularly for a reliable car that I could daily drive if needed. Located in Fort Collins, CO.
I want this to go to a GRM-er. Seriously. I want to see this in GRM next year after the $2018 challenge. It would do extremely well even in its current state, and is some tires and a tune away from being an absolute monster.
