Are there any cars out there that I could source a pair of coil-overs off of ? New ones are WAY too expensive for my budget, I was thinking that I might find a pair that were installed from the factory that I could make work.
I know that certain Jags came equipped in this way, I could probably even use a set from a motorcycle if any came with them considering the lack of weight out back.
The rear end of the car is shaping up to be extremely light. The gas is plastic and fits in the pocket between the interior and the trunk area, pretty much mid-ship. The trunk sheetmetal is cut and replaced with a ribbed aluminum spare tire cover from a Vega. The rear rolled valance has been cut away and the opening will be fitted with a 914 wire mesh engine grill. The rear inner sheet metal has been drilled with lightening holes and aluminum screen, and the rear fenders are race weight fiberglass. I can pretty much carry what remains of the metal rear body clip in one hand.
NOT a lot of weight to contend with at all, so I'll need to find a coil over set with that in mind. Hopefully used and cheap !
Any help would be a BIG help !
Most motorcycles have rear coilovers, but they're probably still sprung for lighter weight than you need.
Of course you maybe able to run twin coilovers on each side of the car.
VW Beetle off-road rear shocks and springs are sometimes a good solution for cheap shocks with adjustable spring perches.
Also the Circle track racers often have cheap shocks and springs available from time to time.

I have a conversion set of eBay Civic coilover's. Not sure it's what you're looking for, but they won't work for what I want to do, so I'll sell them cheap to be rid of them (and they were cheap to begin with).

I have motorcycle cool overs on my challange car in the rear they worked surprisingly well
Motorcycle shocks/springs are the easy button for miata rear suspension.

I have two pairs of those down cellar, I need to dig them out I guess. They're meant to be used in conjunction with the rear torsion bar in place as well, but I'll bet that my MGA is half the weight in the rear as compared to a what rear engine/steal body Beetle weighs back there.

Do you remember what motorcycle that they were meant for/came off of? Make/model/year? Do you have a couple of pics that you might be able to post so that I can see how they mount up?
Appreciated a whole lot !
The Locost folks love those Motorcycle shocks and I think there was a thread here about them with different models and dimensions, etc.
Let me see if I can dig them up.
Here's a few threads on the subject:

Thread 2
Thread 3
Thread 4
Thread 5
Thanks ! !
That first thread convinced me ! My "build thread" heroes are running with motorcycle coil overs, who am I to argue.
I looked on Ebay and the seem to run around $60/$80 for the pair, used. Not too bad at all—

Pontiac Solstices all came with Bilstein coilovers from the factory. Nonadjustable, but sleeves could be added, especially with a snap ring groove machined lower. Used they should be comparable with motorcycle shocks. I got a new set of 4 for less than 300 off eBay.
