I’m assuming it didn’t start life as a truck? It looks surprisingly well done if so.
I'm guessing that this one used to be a station wagon in the dim and distant past.
I mean it's like an actual pickup truck just with none of the utility and Italian reliability.
I think it was the shag carpet "bedliner" that probably put me over the edge. 
My buddy Sarisongroup had an uncle that had three mid-70s Fiats. Usually he could get one of them to start so he could get to work, but it was never the same one.

I think it started as a 128 wagon, a Unibody car. I'm a verified whack job, but I like it.
I had someone ask me if I would do such a thing to a Fox body Mustang this week. I was on board until they said that they wanted a working tailgate. Also told him to check with the insurance company before first cut.
Edit: Turns out it is a thing

Always wanted to do that to a Metro and got very close in the mid 2000's when I couldn't find a decent used small pickup.

I'm about the furthest thing from a mustang guy but I'd drive the wheels off that thing!

Bingo! My brother had one, same color. This picture probably runs better than his ever did. BTW, I had 124 coupe at the same time. Both were nice to look at. That was about it.
I like the wheels on the FIAT.

That metro kind of reminds me of a Suzuki Mighty Boy, but the metro would be the more useful hauler.
