Just received my new splitter from Roush Yates. $40 bucks plus shipping. It was made for a COT car and is Carbon Fiber, 6ft long, 7" wide in the center, and about 9" plus on the curve. This one had been mounted but never used, no wear.

Yeah I was thinking that too.
Wow, there's some yummy stuff in there. Right up to this level: http://www.roushyatesparts.com/Used-Rolling-Chassis-s/755.htm

Ditto. I'm having a hard time resisting that one for the Miata.
Question about the splitter dimensions - how wide is the "cutout" in the middle? My car's a bit narrower than your typical stocker.
It is seven inches wide in the center. UPS was $17 to Wi. If anyone gets one have them wrap the ends in cardboard. They are just wrapped in black plastic and UPS likes to throw things a long way.
Not the width of the material, the width of the cutout. But based on the 6' total width, I'm thinking it's not going to fit. I need something that's got a minimum width of something like 4'6".

Right... that's why i'm asking how bad it would really be to shorten the whole thing by taking a chunk out of the middle and then bonding it back together somehow?
I've done this before to put lips from cars WAY wider than mine on my car, but haven't any experience with splitters.
Ah, gotcha. Not worth it, really - a piece of 6061 aluminum the right size is about the same price as the shipped splitter.

Is the rigidity about the same vs. CF? (And if so, how badly will the CF be damaged in terms of strength if i were to cut it and then glass it back together?) I know i'm getting off topic at this point, but i'm about to delve into "Cheapass DIY aero" with two of my cars, so i'm just trying to soak up what i can.
Rigidity falls in the "enough" category, and I'm gonna say it's stronger where the join would be than a spliced-together ex-NASCAR piece. I'm not going to play the game of "stand on the splitter" because that's just dumb, but if I had one that had been sectioned I'd have to add a couple of extra support cables.
The material of choice for cheapass DIY aero splitters is either plywood or big road signs bought by the pound at the local metal recycler.
BTW, sources tell me that these things are made of Tegris, not CF.

Wiki says the COT is 78.5" wide while Ford's official width for the 2013 Mustang is 73.9". Hmmm....
Well then just get a COT This looks like a deal!!!
