1969 mercedes 280sel Red Pig replica build

I finished the Right rocker today and removed front radiator support . 

for some reason I have a luck to buy cars filled with expandable home depot foam . This is a second car that I owed that rust was repaired with foam and filler slapped right on top of it . 

New bumper support is almost ready to go on . Need only to cut off tow hook and weld in on new one .

Today was a busy day / devil is in the detail.

I finalized right front fender , plugging all the holes for maker light and antenna . Two little sections had to be made and welded in . Little bit up with rust fighting. 

Coated welded sections and plain steal with etching metal prep. 

Welded in front radiator support, hook, and replaced damaged section of front bracket.

Holy crap balls. That's one sexy pig. 

I got one little rusty spot to take care under the right front fender . 

After that I will take a day brake from the rust , and build housing for LeMans style filler neck . 

You are making me re-consider the stock sleeper look for the Volvo. I am just loving the flares and how well they work on the overall design.

We got a small progress.   Shifter mount made  with classic looking mercedes shifter and ball . 

Started working on the seats position and made a nice chair from original driver seat .

Couple days ago rear suspension springs finally arrived , 2.5 inches shorter and 25 % stiffer .  Looking good. I think they will saddle another 1/4 inch after gas tank gets filled up , Roll cage and seats get installed . Now I got guide lines for rear body sections . Will get on it soon . Still need to finish mounting the seats and make a tunnel cover .

Such a neat project, great work too!

This week a got a hold off plasma cutter.  Please see the attached pics .  After cutting section of the fender just like Germans did on original pig I noticed that door line to  the rear fender line needs to be drastically moved. It is the closest point of the body structure to the tire.  I readjust a little fender line so the 315 rear tire fits like a glow and started cutting in to left rear door right below the handle . 

This is what we got so far . With good progress one side will be done by the end of the week .

Right side flare is almost done , One spot needs to be wheeled a little bit more to keep the curve nice across the whole piece . 

It is going to be a little tricky with setting up a new door line , seal etc .  But looking forward to getting it done this week .
