Looks like its in really great shape. You dont want to be able to cook at the track? Id keep a propane tank, you could get a small 5lb one also.

Yeah, the more I think on it that's not going to work. That was contingent upon loading from the slide out (roll off the kart stand, on to the slideout then drop in) but the slideout is actually not large enough to fit the kart.

If I dont make a custom loading door then its going to be sideways through the main door.

Haven't ruled it out but I find I rarely have time to eat at an autox let alone cook.

Rather than putting the kart inside the trailer, could you put it on top while the topper is lowered?

Would it be possible to just rig up the cart on the roof, or maybe the tongue where you removed the propane tanks? If not there, would it shift the weight too far back to add a rack at the back of the camper?

It might be easier to avoid a fuel spill inside the cabin if the cart slept outside. But that might not work for long journeys or inclement weather, or theft prevention unless it has its own enclosure.

to the above tow comments...(read each other people :))

a) the kart woundn't fit on the aframe even with the propane tanks removed 55x64 is a lot bigger than it seems :)

b) the goal is inside storage. Without it I might have well bought a $200 HF flatbed when its on sale. But Im getting older, and if you've ever spent a whole day towing your car to an event, standing around in the hot sun, racing a bit, towing the whole way home again....well then you know, the last thing you want to do is unload the trailer when you get home. Inside storage means I can leave it for later.

c) for the sake of argument, the top wont hold the weight of the kart. :)

I totally get where you're coming from. It's what I love about having a van to haul around my mountain bikes. I can get home late from a race, unload a few perishables and smelly clothes, and unload the rest later.

And agree about cooking at autocross. Sounds great in principle. Rarely works out in practice. For me it only worked when we ran three heats, which wasn't often. Usually, lunch was a 15 min (if that) break between heats to shove down a pre-made sandwich from WaWa picked up on the way there...

Still working on this one slowly. Mostly been prepping the kart but I finally got some new wheels and tires for the trailer. The old tires weren't holding air and the wheels were pretty crusty and old. It ended up being just as cheap to order the tires mounted on new wheels.

Thankfully the down time waiting on them let me stumble across the little tidbit that the left side of the trailer uses left hand thread lugs. That would have been frustrating. Actually it still was, I don't think they had been removed in a long time. So now its on good rolling stock and I have the stablizer jacks set so this weekend I can open it up and start to make space for the kart.

Ok, so the work on the kart is all done and it's time to figure out how to get it into the trailer. First, lets make a space for it.

This looks like a good space, but there's some benches in the way.

Ok, so out with the benches then...

There, now we have space but we have an issue with getting the kart into that space.

Plan a) load through the slide out...nope, slide out is 48"...kart is 55"

Plan b) stand it up and go through the door. While I could probably manage it, it would not be easy and the whole point of this is to make life easier, not harder.

So sigh plan c) it is....I need the current hatch to be a bit larger...about this size

Well there's no turning back now. I kept the original hatch as is so it can flip up on its own or the whole larger hatch can flip up with the small hatch.

Clearance is um....tight. Thank god for a flat topped steering wheel.

yep, it goes in....

Nice and snug. (btw, I painted the kart and added some vinyl)

I started framing out the opening. On the bottom and side I've used two pieces, a smaller one that is flush with the opening and a larger one that sits up 1/4 inch to form a lip for the new door to seal against. The door is being reinforced with the same aluminum strip on the edges so I needed the first piece to provide enough gap so the door will fit flush

Found some stainless steel piano hinges

Well, job's a good'un. Now that it's all complete I'll look for some approprite weather seal to put on inside but otherwise it opens, it closes, it latches. Pretty much all I wanted out of it. It will be less obtrusive when the whole thing gets repainted and the rivets blend in more.

I really like the stealth kart loading door- can't wait to hear some of the reactions to that one the first time you pull a kart out of your pop-up at an event
