I have found one of the old cars
I wish I had some information about this, but this is in the TIL category for me as well. Following along because now I'm also interested to hear all about it!
Looks like it is also built to ITB specs which may translate into some other class. It would probably be a great track day/hill climb car to get seat time in.
Found this quote on GEO STORM OWNERS PAGE. "In addition to this, between 1990 and 1992, Chevrolet sponsored several years of SCCA Club Racing sanctioned "Celebrity" races as part of the Grand Prix road races in New York, Long Beach, Dallas, and other locations. These events put a group of celebrities in identically prepared Geo Storm cars (in Showroom Stock preparation, essentially stock with safety equipment installed)."
Approx. 20 were prepared for these races and 16 was the usual number that started.
No real well known celebrities mostly local TV Hosts and DJs, Lynch Mob and Badlands Band Members, I have seen couple of these guys on the Counting Cars Show.
Found the VIDEO Entertaining.
My sister had this same car. Fun little car to throw around. I always wondered how much fun it would be on the track
In reply to Jalopy_Joe :
Looking at one tomorrow, thinking about trying it in scca events this summer
let you know what I find out
I had one and I liked it so much I later built a circle track car out of one. But they didn't handle well without a lot of suspension work, despite the'lotus' suspension, and they burned the rear main from lack of oil. I replaced it with an Integra and then a 240 and both were a lot quicker.
This your car here maybe? https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.motortrend.com/features/strom-warning-november-1991-982-1484-60-1/amp/
Here are some more details of the Geo Storm Celebrity Race Series. After a successful run of the Corvette Challenge Race Series in 1988 & 89, Chevy Raceshop had SportsFab Inc (now closed) build and prep 24 Geo Storms for the Celebrity Race Series from 1990 -93 to showcase the affordability of club racing the Geo Storm. The Race Series held races at SCCA events around the US. Notable celebrity drivers were Vince Neil, Tommy Lee, Donnie Osmond, Richard Dean Anderson, Ricky Schroder, Alfonso Ribiero, rock stars, actors, and local TV/Radio/political celebrities. The Geo Storms were production built but then modified with safety equipment (roll cage, fire suppression, window net, race brake pads) but retained the production airbag system. The Geo Storm was also raced by SportsFab in the SCCA Pro Series during the early 1990s.
I also raced one at a local track. It was the "hot rod" GSi version, which I believe is the same as these Celebrity cars. Was fun, but the Integras walked away from me. Beware that the Isuzu engine has become difficult to find parts for. Part of the reason I ended up selling it.
