The state of California, the land of fruits and nuts and has very rigid smog laws. This car is one of those tools that sits for extended periods of time, requires the normal basics to keep it running and every two years it has to pass its own version of "turn your head an cough". Well not only has it passed again, the tech even made a comment on how clean it was running.

After paying the bill, this place charges $10 more for the older cars, he helped me push the car back out of the test site and I was on my way. Yes, no reverse. Have not had it for 18 months. It does make you plan ahead, I only goofed once so far, and now I need to make a decision.

When starting from dead cold the exhaust leak from both sides are profound. These cars do pop exhaust manifold studs and just as it builds enough heat to warm the cab the noise abates. I get that the best time to dig out the remnants in the heads will coincide with dropping the motor when I change the transmission.

To a 5 speed.

My question is this, does anyone have the parts, expertise or time to make this happen? Or should I even be asking?

Having had a series of Datsun 510's, both 2 and 4 door, I always remember how much fun they were and they would be that much better if... They had more power(I did the SSS L18 swap), had a 5 speed( never did this) and had A/C (yea right).

My car has a freshened suspension with Bilsteins, working A/C and an open rear diff. Soooo, what to do.

And there is NO rust at all on the car, none. Just asking.
