Me too!

At the end of the day, I put them through some serious abuse... how serious? Well, this is what the pads looked like:

:o

But its all good! Got it all fixed up with new Porterfield R4 pads (thanks Shawn @ rallysport.ca for getting these so quick on such short notice!). Found some interesting tibits as well about WRX brakes and 4pot/2pots.

Rotor on the left is GroupN DBA rotor. Rotor on the right is NOT a WRX rotor. What is it you ask? A 2005 Subaru Outback XT (the XT is the important part) rotor. I had bought WRX rotors, which are the same 2002 thru 2007, even with all the different calipers that were available.

Once I had the DBA rotors off, I noticed the new ones were significantly lighter, and braking is all about thermal mass. Further research lead me to the fact that the Outback XT rotors are the same dimensionally except for their thickness, they are much thicker (a couple mm's on each side)!

The best part? Certified econo rotors are $41.99 each no matter what vehicle from Parts Source. Deal of the century IMO! So I have what are essentially group N rotors for $41.99 each. Now, people would probably try to argue that they aren't the same, and I agree they are not, but in my opinion, steel is steel. Yes, it can have different compounds in it, be heat treated differently, etc etc etc but at the end of the day, it's a $41.99 rotor vs a $200 rotor.

We'll see how it works out at Radium this coming weekend!

And finally, the rear pins apparently decided to go AWOL that hold the pads in on the last stages ??? It also looks like I may need new calipers soon, the rear calipers get the itshay kicked out of them on rally cars!

Car seems a little down on power. The filter is awfully clogged (K&N), I hope that is the issue!

Hmm, spark getting blown out??

Might be why it was down on power. Running anti-lag, launch control, and cyclic idle is hell on plugs, these haven't been changed since before Big White 2013 so they were due!

Two of the plugs were... not very tight. One was the equivalent of JUST tighter than finger tight, the other a little bit more than that but still... happy I caught it when I did. So off to Princess Auto (Canada's Harbour Freight) for $80 in torque wrenches (got a 1/4" drive inch pound and a 1/2" ftlb as my old one seems to have wandered away).

Also scooped up a new K&N universal filter to see if my issue was the filter being wrecked (I followed their cleaning and re-oiling instruction, but maybe I did something wrong? The filter was 3 years old, probably a change wouldn't hurt!)
