I finally got a chance to look over the Montero in the daylight.
I bought it a couple days ago at the Goodwill auto auction for $400. There is some damage to the passenger side doors and fender and no brakes, likely a bad line.
The plan is to fix the brakes and use it to tow my rallycross Miata. I would really like to do an onboard air system with a York compressor.
I've had to jump the battery every time. I got a Powerall jump pack on Wednesday and it has already saved a lot of time. I'm going to try charging the battery but I may just put in the new giant AGM battery from my Mercedes if I can make it fit.
Nice. Pre-dented. The kind of truck you really don't feel bad taking off road or using hard!
I'll be looking for replacement parts in the local junkyards but for now I'll probably just pull it out and rattlecan.
Did you sell the gti yet?
I traded it for a 97 Miata a couple months ago.
Nice, I'll be following along on this one. A beater 4x4 is in my near future!
Today I found the leak in the brake line. It is rusted close to the rear axle. I will get the parts this week and run new brake lines next weekend when it is in the 40s.
3.5 in that? You don't want to tow with the 3.0 - it barely tows itself! Watch out for leaking oil cooler lines.
It's the 3.0. My last tow vehicle was a non-turbo Volvo 940 wagon so I'm used to no power.
Fair enough! I was lucky enough to have a 5-speed in my 3.0, I don't envy your slushbox. But I DO envy your Montero ownership, I miss mine. Great buy!
