How about a race report from the Challenge?
So I was perusing my old Challenge issues.
You finished better in 2014 than 2013, but the car appears to have slowed a bunch in the dragstrip. What happened?
Also, I didn't see the sweet bodywork in the picture.
Well, I have now acquired the Metro from Les and I am thrilled! I drove it home today with a big grin. Now to figure out what all was done to it over the years. I need to touch up the side molding and the front bumper. I also need to catalog all the spare parts. My goal is to run it at the Atlanta SCCA Track Night and maybe if I have time do a few autocrosses.
First order of business was a quick OBD scan. Yup, it has a few codes:
P0141
P1410
P1530
I think the MIL bulb blew out but I'm not shocked. I know one of the previous owners had problems with getting it smogged, so now it is my turn. But hey, it runs, so that is most of the battle in my book.
In reply to VWguyBruce : what all did you need to make these fit? I’m down for CRX Sleeves if these work direct bolt on.
Let's revive this thread since I'm the new owner of the Metro. It appears that the CEL is in fact burnt out and my scantool shows the same 3 codes the previous owner was experiencing.
P0141
P1410
P1530
I'll need to do some trouble shooting on this. Luckily since it's an out of state title, I won't have to get it inspected when I get tags, but I wonder if this is part of the surging idle issue the car has.
In reply to untchabl :
Sorry!!!
I honestly didn't know that the cel was burnt out before your threads, and that theres codes. I would have disclosed that.
Want a refund?
In reply to Dusterbd13-michael :
Nah, no worries Michael. The CEL being on wouldn't have stopped me from buying it. It's a cheap beater car, it's gonna have some issues to sort out. And the issues can't be too serious, you drove it home from Atlanta.
So it turns out I still have a spare, brand new, exhaust manifold for that car sitting in my garage. If you make it to Atlanta any time soon, shoot me a PM and you are welcome to it.
I have an exhaust manifold from a JDM carbed version of that car.
I kept it because it looks like it would be really easy to mate a turbo to it
Today was a little get to know the car day. Changed the oil, cleaned all the spare parts out of the back and removed the home-made rear strut tower bar. Wanted the rear to be open when the seat is folded down so I have as much room to carry stuff as possible. This is going to be my parts runner/junkyard hauler so cargo capacity is more important than handling for now.
Attempted to get it registered and tagged today however the DMV was closed due to the holiday, which I forgot about until I was turning into the parking lot. I'll try again next week. I did drive it about 5 miles round trip just to take it to the gas station.
