Trees fall over and block trails. Out here in the high desert it's usually just spindly little lodgepole, so the chainsaw doesn't have to be very big. A great thread on Thumpertalk led me to craigslist looking for a top handle and I found this Echo CS341 for $90. Pretty stoked, it's lightweight and tiny.

I'm well versed in riding around downed timber, but it would be nice to be able to cut a 2 foot wide, motorcycle only path through it sometimes. I've been wanting to have a chainsaw in the Motovan too for when I'm towing my camper down an FS road and turning around would be a nightmare. Bonus is that the Gas Gas has a 3.2 gallon tank and runs the same premix. If the saw runs out of fuel I can just pull the fuel line off the carb and refill the saw. It would take a lot of riding in order to burn anywhere close to a full tank of fuel in my Gas Gas so that shouldn't be a concern.

I want to have a piece sandwich between the lower triple clamp and the fender. There are 4 bolts that mount the front fender. One snapped while removing the fender, this is not a good start. I ran my tap through the other 3 holes and started drilling out the broken bolt. EZ-outs didn't grip well enough so I drilled all the way through so I could spray penetrating oil through the hole in the bolt and let it works its way back down through the threads from the top.

Also, my fender will be in the way of a piece of metal coming flat out from the bottom of the triple clamp.

Digging through my box of plastic that came with this old beater revealed a different style front fender, complete with graphics.

I'm guessing I have a fender and number plate off a newer Gas Gas since that is a popular swap.

I'm going to be using some thick aluminum plate left over from the wheelchair lift that came with the Motovan. There will probably be two sheets, the upper and lower. The lower will be pretty flat. The upper will have about a 90* bend and mirror the lower portion to make the bottom a double thickness. I'm thinking the upper piece could be made from thinner aluminum since it won't be bearing much weight. The top will extend high enough to provide a surface to mount headlights. I haven't figured this out yet. I'm debating between a cheap LED light bar mounted to the bark busters, or some left over driving lights that I have that I would mount to the aluminum sheet.

Not pointing it straight forward for zombie defense?

When we rode in the bush we would bungee a two gallon can of fuel to the triple clamp. Didn't build anything special. It worked pretty good. I don't think that little saw would weigh that much.

Very cool! I too have looked at doing this, although my saw is a little bigger. Ill be watching.

In areas of heavy blow down, I'm hoping to be able to leave the saw unstrapped and idling in the mount and cut a path without getting off the bike.

berkeleying EZ-out snapped. Not sure how to drill out a broken EZ-out, inside of a broken steel bolt, threaded into an aluminum triple clamp.

Round 2 of cardboard mockup

Round one of aluminum

Bandsaw and metal brake at work are awesome.

Cleaned them up in the parts washer and then sand blasted some adhesive crap off the back side.

I came home and put them in place, and decided I should redo them in either plywood or plastic cutting boards.

There are some Mad Max overtones to this build.

I hate breaking EZ outs. At that point they are the opposite of their name.

Agree that this thread would be better with pics. I do see the first one though.
