If you need to, take a breather. I've stepped away from projects for a couple of days before; kinda gives you fresh eyes when you come back.

Also, prayers for you and your dad from the Recon household.

Maybe just give the starter a whack with a hammer and try again?

****This.  But maybe try the SFH or the MFH instead of the BFH.  Just had to replace the battery in our C-Max because of a mystery drain that would randomly leave the car dead.  Was very odd because I would check the battery and it would be 12.6-12.8V, so fully charged, but then a little later the battery voltage would be dropping quickly and it wouldn't start the car, but no large amp load could be found.  It turned out to be that the battery still had good voltage but its capacity had gone from 65AH down to, like, 2AH.  If you put *any* load on the battery the voltage would collapse like an NBA/soccer player getting fouled.  blush  Yes, sometimes I are idgit.  Anywho a new battery cured all problems (so far).

He's home now and feeling better.  Thanks for asking.  Hospital couldn't find anything definitive with his heart or brain so after his symptoms subdued he came home.  Waiting on regular doctors visits this week for additional insight.  I appreciate the concern from you all proving again what a genuinely good group of people live around these parts.  I'm touched by your kindness.  Thank you.
I'm replacing the battery this week.  I'm considering a Costco purchased Interstate-700 CCA 3 year replacement for $99.  Best price for the specs.  I was looking at AGM batteries and again Costco has the best price at $159.99.

Good news about your Dad.  I remember meeting the two of you at the HR Power Tour.  Looked like you guys were having an amazing time.  I'm glad it looks like you guys are going to be cruising in the Cougar again this summer yes

re: Batter.   Do you have a spare one you can swap in to verify that it's the battery before purchasing a new one?

Drag the battery to the nearest parts store and have them load test it.

I had a few minutes before cooking dinner to take a look at the car.   I put a socket on a breaker and turned the motor about 90 deg just to verify nothing had gone horribly wrong internally.   That fear alleviated, I'll hit the key in a bit to see if the solenoid might have loosened up in the sub freezing temps and with the crank turned a bit.   Should that not address the issue, I'll proceed to a percussive maintenance procedure on the starter solenoid, loosen the starter, and if necessary replace it with another one I bought last summer brand new that a local racer wanted to sell.  Fingers crossed.

SUCCESS!   So far anyways!

Installed the new battery, hit the starter and it spun the motor!  I pulled th me coil wire and cranked it a few times to get the oil to circulate.  Popped out, reconnected the coil wire, put the trans in neutral and she started.  Looked down and no wheel motion!!!   So no energized input shaft condition.  I've got some work stuff to knock out then off the jack stands for a drive tonight!

Woooo Hooooo! laugh

Not that I'm aware of but I'll ask him.

Something's still not right unfortunately as clutch still isn't releasing fully.  I got everything prepped/checked for a quick drive-fluids, lug torque checked, tire pressures adjusted-and fired it up in neutral.  Depressed the clutch pedal and wouldn't go in to any gear.   Shut off engine select 1st and start the engine and can feel a load on the motor bring down the revs so it's still not releasing fully.  I thought I'd fully adjusted the clutch pedal for maximum travel but that's next step for investigation.  Dang.

Yeah I'm not feeling great but I'm not defeated Dave.  I did fix the backwards clutch disc and am still making progress I'd just hoped this would wrap things up.  It hasn't so back at it.  I'm trying to eke out some additional MC travel via the linkages but have already ordered its replacement.  It'll be in on Tuesday and eliminates all that.
I'm not attending next week.  Will you be coming in later this month to the Injection Molding and Design Expo?   I'll be at that show.   I'll also invite you to the event Engel is doing with Sabic June 2nd.

Yeah I was under the car and adjusted the slave cylinder to max it's stroke.  Gear engagement is much easier but clutch still isn't releasing.  I think the MC is the issue and I'll work on the linkage a bit more as I await it's replacement due to me on Tuesday.

Weather cleared as did my schedule so I tore in to it tonight.  Pulled the steering column and then pedal assembly out.  Removed the clutch MC and all of its associated bits too.  I've got a question for Malwood USA, the maker of the new clutch MC assembly so I'll call them in the morning to discuss then start reassembly tomorrow night.
