We also know our hats, and that, Sir, is a nice one.

I think I passed that shop when I got really f-n lost in Wilmington one time. I might have to stop in there now.

I approved of this build. The Prowler always needed an engine to match its looks.

Nashco wrote: I agree, the Corvette rear trans would work well except it's a totally different packaging setup. I was thinking more along the lines of what other longitudinal, front drive transmission was made that could take that kind of power. Audi uses a similar orientation and has made some pretty stout transmissions, but you'd obviously need to ditch the rear drive and center differential part of the AWD transmission. Something like the 6 speed manual from an Audi S4, perhaps. Then again, might be easier to burn up transmissions and replace them once a year. Bryce

Yes you got it I actually have 2 beefed up custom prowler Trans. I keep one on the shelf just in case. I know how to drive it now so it's fine. Both have hardened internals, 2 shift kits, upgraded tq converters extra clutches etc.

Nothing easy going fast on a low production car with no aftermarket

Also realize that you guys track your cars. Even this one off custom we did it 2 at Lime rock this year.

So my track day wasn't about taking a straight line it was pushing it to the max for a full blown track day at lime rock. I drove it 130 miles to the track from NJ did a complete track day and drove it home 130 miles.

Had no problem smoking a ton of cars on the straights! This day with an instructor was the better than any day I ever had at the drag strip. Learned how to drive and the cars limits it did great! Left a few victims on this lap!

Everyone knows top speed is not everything on the track its the turns. The car handled well I was not there to set course records but to be a better driver and prove to all and myself that a custom one off car can work and be successful! Mission accomplished.

Now I enjoy the cruise! Take home trophies and just have fun with it! Almost 3000 miles of smiles! After waiting over 16 months and 12 years of ownership its all worth while!

Just one guys story! Im very happy! Updates daily at www.facebook.com/hemiprowler

I think what has always impressed me most about the Prowler is the dual A-arm, pushrod front suspension. Full race stuff, there, and gorgeous too.

For future reference, I did a little research on Audi/Porsche transaxles to satisfy my own curiosity. My comments made above about modifying a quattro transmission to be 2wd are not helpful, as there are 2wd 6 speed versions that are supposedly a little stronger than the AWD versions. The Audi 01E (2wd) transmission seems to be the best fit from this particular parts bin.

The Audi 2wd 01E:

Supposedly a very similar gearbox is used at the rear of the Porsche 968 without the starter or clutch provisions:

Sorry for the threadjack...hopefully this is helpful if some other nutjob like me starts imagining a stronger 6 speed manual transmission in the Prowler to go along with an engine upgrade.
