This will be a build in process, starting where we are now. I will document upgrades only now general race maintenance.
After three successful years of racing we are now willing to kick it up a notch, and hope for the best.
Current stats,
1989 Mustang
2.3 with a ranger roller cam and a cleaned up head shaved .050.
T5, stock clutch, aluminum drive shaft, 7.5 rear end with a 3:73 trac lock.
Gutted and caged, primed for round two of adding lightness.
Our 11 inch front and drum rear brakes lasted four races but had uneven wear on the pads. Along with the fresh engine we will be installing some SS caliper pin bushings.
In reply to jimbbski :
Power rack currently, part of adding lightness part two is a manual rack. I have the rack, just need to install it and weld on an adapter.
In reply to 2_3 :
I’ll start a build thread for the blue car soon. It’s getting Koni DA’s and MM coilovers to go with it’s new torque arm.
Also on the list for the 5.0 is a new engine, no rush on that as it runs great right now.
Those coilovers look super cheaty though the dryer vent makes up for some of that. It seems like it would have dubious durability.
In reply to mazdeuce - Seth :
If we had those coilovers on decent shocks it would be cheaty, the rear has some nice Bilsteins with Maximum Motorsports coilovers. We took penalty laps when the coilovers showed up, now we have a slow car that handles better. Once you prove how slow you are the judges stop penalizing you, as long as everything looks good and used.
As long as we stay off the podium they leave us alone. So far we have a second place in class 3, fourth in class 2, and one DNF. The DNF was for a weak pressure plate with an hour and a half left to go, we could have limped it around in one gear but that didn't seem like that much fun.
Holy cow, last updated six years ago. Um, still racing this hoopty.
Last race was Road America, next one is Gingerman next month. This will be our second race with our first fresh motor, all other motors have been 200k mile used truck motors with a set of rings and bearings slapped in.
Anyone going to be at Gingerman this year?
