The floor shift indicates it's a four speed, in 1966 the three speed trans used a 3-on-the-tree shift.

Thank you for all the great info Stuart. Normally I do obsessive levels of research on a particular vehicle before purchase but this one came up rather sudden. You are filling in many of the blanks I need to fill in :)

stuart in mn wrote: What rear end ratio is in it? Mine also has the heavy duty four speed (with 'granny' low) but it has 3.25 gears in the rear end, so highway speeds are no problem. Prior to this truck I had a '65 F-250, and I think it had 4.56 gears...that thing sounded like it was going to explode at 55mph.

Not sure yet. I had a 79 with the t-18 and granny low with 4.54 gears and a small block 400 (chevy motor, ford truck, custom bellhousing) so I know what you mean about seeming like it's going to explode at 55 :) But it would tow my house if I asked it to.

Ohh, pretty. I agree, toolbox, shift knob and cock sock gotta go but otherwise a fine looking truck.

Yes I really did tow the 66 F250 60 miles home with the Marauder. It may be a week before my butt unclenches. The Marauder handled it great but we were definitely at the upper limit of towing capability and an emergency stop would have killed me. Truck itself. I went there with 4 possible outcomes 1) Not as advertised, walk away 2) below expectations but not misrepresented 3) Meets expectations 4) Better than expected I'm happy to say its a solid 3.5 on the scale. I'm VERY happy.

The whole front suspension has been rebuilt. The paint is, as expected, a 10 footer but it could be cut and buffed to be better but meh, its a truck I'm happy with it.

The ad said "needs electrical work" so I assumed I'd throw a whole harness in it. When I got there I asked the seller what electrical bits weren't working. "The horn..." and? "nothing else but the wiring is a bit of a mess" And yes it is a bit of a mess but I can work with that.

There were also no engine shots so I assumed I'd find a messy stock FE under the hood, if it ran I was fine with that...

but....

Seller had no real info but its been warmed over a bit, 4 barrel carb, dual exhaust, sounds sweet, runs great.

No rear shots either so surely it must have a rusted out or bashed up tailgate it's hiding....

Nope...

The whole time the seller was concerned I would be unhappy or that maybe he hadn't represented the truck well. I'm thrilled. I may love this thing.

Or, knowing me, I may clean it up and double my money. But I'm in no hurry to see it go.

That truck didn't look big by it's self...but in the top pic it looks like it's trying to hump the Marauder.

Sweet score. Usually ebay auctions go the opposite direction of yours.

It did, for the seller. He actually bought this a few months ago for MUCH more money sight unseen and had it shipped from Utah. He admitted he lost his shirt because the truck wasn't what he expected and he didn't want to screw anyone over. And this is after he fixed all the front suspension issues. Really nice guy and honest seller. Was a pleasure to deal with.

Could I ask a moderator to move this to the Builds and Projects section please and give it a more appropriate title (1966 Ford F250 rolling build or something like that) I guess this one will be getting some building and all that kinda stuff :)

So I decided to de-PepBoys the interior by taking a trip to....PepBoys.

But a simple white shift knob and c*ck sock-ectomy and a good old farmers seat cover look much better in there. S-canned the Type R floormats too. I will eventually rip the carpet out and put in a rubber floor.

looking good Is that a 352, 360 or 390?

And it looks like the by pass hose on top of the water pump has been replaced recently. I would rather sell the truck than replace that thing.

supposed to be a 352, no reason to guess otherwise. All of the hoses and such appear to be new, and yes, that little bugger looks like hell to replace.
