One more project for the day, got sick of the black front bumper. Just a quick scuff and shoot but honestly if I'd have known how good this paint looks I might have done a bit more prep. It's just rustoleum silver metallic but it looks really good, a wetsand and buff with some clear and you could mistake it for chrome from a distance. $5 well spent

It's just this stuff if anyone is looking to freshen up an old bumper or trim.

That almost looks like a hard chrome plating to me.

Ok, one more quick project on the truck. The tailgate latch was bringing the whole thing down. Since I still had some paint left and it looked good I pulled it apart, cleaned it up and gave it a quick coat

really hated the 80s throwback wheels on this thing but I'm also a cheap bastard so I had to hunt for a deal on something. Need to get new tires soon too so it was time to decide if the 15 inch ugly was staying or something else was taking its place.

Winner! Something else! Stock steelies from a mid 90s F250. Nothing special but just what I wanted, solid, round and CHEAP. With the right paint and some dog dish caps they'll look great on the truck

Painted them a nice off white to go with the truck. Gotta hunt tires and hubcaps now.

Other projects for today, I screwed up the front bumper trying to wetsand it out. That silver does NOT wetsand. Going to sand it all back out and try again. Touched up some paint. When I removed the tool box in the bed the paint under it was mangled. Sanded it out and found a pretty close match in rustoleum cans that makes it look better and doesnt leave exposed metal.

I also finally got all the air horn components mounted in the engine bay. I still need to wire it up but it's getting there.

That thing needs an early Mustang steering wheel!

Finished them off with a stripe tonite. Not my best work but it will do

In reply to JThw8:

That stripe reminds me of my grandmother who worked in a dish factory striping plates. She would put the plate on a spinner and put a brush on and hand stripe the plate. Is that what you did?

Mounted the wheel on the front hub and spun it, yep.

Picked these up for $30, they'll need a little straightening and touch up paint but they'll do.

I really wanted an earlier style but they are selling for $200 and up for a set that need refinished.

So my cheap hubcaps showed up. A few dents and scrapes but that just goes with the character of the truck. But they just looked a little too modern for the truck.

So a little color coding to the truck and yeah, that works better.

Thank you. As with most of my automotive endeavors it is half art project half mechanical. I get an idea about how something should look and I'll put more effort into that than the mechanical bits sometimes. I mean look at the Lot Lizard, there's a whole lot of cosmetic detail I spent way too much time on almost at the risk of not having it ready for the skidpad challenge.

Ok, everything mounted up. Overall I like it much more. Not sure about the stripe on the hubcaps. Might look better in red but I'll wait to see if it grows on me. I thought the tires on the truck looked to narrow so I went larger but even with 235s they still look kinda small on this truck. Its ok, I like it :)

I think red on the hubcaps would look better.

Looks much better! The newer caps do make it look odd because they stick out too much. Red stripe might be better, but none might be best to minimize the stickoutyness. I know its a bit played out but I would've gone red on the wheels. To me the light color looks too much like white walls in the wrong spot. Also with red wheels and porta-whites it would look classy as hell. Also played out, but I just like the look.

Sorry to keep pushing the Mustang theme, but maybe some Mustang dog dishes with the centers polished off?

The amount they stick out is quite accurate and unavoidable. The rear axle sticks out well beyond the hub in the F250. A stock low profile dog dish wont work. It also has to be a 12" dog dish, pretty much you'll only find those in deep style like this unfortunately, the correct ones for 66 are more beveled on the edge to minimize the effect but overall they all need to stick out about 6" from the wheel to fit over the axle end.

And no porta whites, its a working truck none of that fancy white wall E36 M3 here :)
