Following stampies question, as I think we'd both love to run RX8 subframed stuff one day - what is your actual width at the tires? I know track width + stock wheels would be ~63" with no tires, but that doesn't seem like a good guesstimate in reality :)
At that weight and power level I'm sure it's a blast!!!

The car weighs 1838 lbs and is tuned for a stock 265 hp. I am using Haltech electronics and dash system and the techs tell me I could tune up to 350 hp safely but this car will do under 3.5 seconds 0 to 60 now. I do now have some really soft Bridgestone racing / street tires that stick well so even though I will build in some traction control, these tires don't spin much with 1838 lbs. The car just goes.
I built a 29 Ford pickup with Miata subframes. It drives and handles like a Miata.

the machine company is out of east central Indiana. I can't remember their name offhand. They have done tens of thousands race axles but mostly for solid rears and drag racing. The business has changed generations and with the inability to hire good folks these days, maybe these contribute to why they had to do my axles twice and each time my local race shop had to finish machine them. It was a hassle.

if you notice, I found the ride height I wanted, considering how high the engine sits in the frame and have the rear axles near level. Then I made temporary pieces of square tubing and bolted them in place of coil overs. You don't want to get your coil overs until the car is near finished and you know the actual weight. RideTech out of Jasper, Indiana then designed the coil overs the car needed.
This vehicle drives like a dream. It handles exceptionally. I describe it like a go kart on steroids.

on the 29 Ford I used Miata subframes because they are good handling plus the narrow width allowed the tires/ wheels to all stay inside the fenders.
The electronics worked out great. I built my own wiring harnesses but used a stand alone engine management by Haltech. Their techs are SUPER to work with and their equipment is easy to use. They supplied the dash system as well. The best company I have ever dealt with in any line of commerce.
