I cheated with my project and pulled the tank out of that location. I will move the tank rearward since I have the room. I want to put a nice hardwood deck in the back.
Would this not be an option for your build?

I will be cutting it close to the $2017 limit with the current mods and power plant choice so I am only changing what is absolutely necessary. The high bed floor also allows for storage under the bed in the spare tire space which is an added bonus. Honda minibikes strapped down in the bed and helmets in storage underneath.

OK, so I went back and looked...are you not going to run the Miata engine?
In reply to NOHOME:
I am going to run the Miata engine until it blows up which might not take too long.
After that it will play the song of my people with an American V8.

Then you need to become acquainted with this man's blog.I am using his front sub-frame and his ideas to do my own rear diff mount.

The "run it until it blows" technique doesn't work well with Miata engines. They're tough critters unless purposefully taken out.

aka add boost improperly. We've got a customer who's got over 450k on his 1.6, boosted since 1991. It's hard to make them blow up unless you're trying to blow them up.
I know you said you were going to run sans front fenders... but what about spliting the hood sides off to give you a place to mount fenders to?
With the re-arched rears matching fronts would really finish the look. Just my $.02

I think the title will weigh 50 pounds.
Seriously, very cool build! I'm in the "I think it will work best with front fenders" camp.
Those certainly look better. If you paint the centers flat black they might look more like vintage wheels
Can you use air-cooled VW Beetle fenders on the front?
Or maybe ACVW rear fenders on the front after being swapped side to side?

I was looking at bug fenders at the junkyard but they aren't long enough. I'm also toying with the idea of trying to make a 55-57 chevy truck front end work.
