Oh I'm not scared off, and we'll be there 2020. But I missed some of the crazier stuff before I found this place, like the justang and your spirit. Now I get to watch the insanity as it happens. Mucho gusto.
This will be my 6th Challenge (02, 03, 04, 06, 08, 09). I’ve been on the sidelines watching the crazy builds over the last several years and finally said “berkeley it, I’m jumping in the deep end! I’ll learn to swim on the way down!”
That’s the RPO sticker for the C4. 41U is “black exterior”. And “WA-U8555” is the same paint code as my buddy’s black 2016 Sierra. I knew this car was red under the blue that’s under the current white top coat, but I had no idea it was originally black.

That is awesome! Black-red-teal-white...
So I found some black paint, and a whole mess of dead ants.
It is amazing how many times a car can get painted a different color in a few years time.
Don't look at it as if there are extra layers of paint, look at it as a theme idea. With a little careful sanding, you could have the everlasting gobstopper of C4s. :)

i'm going to do some sanding just for the photo opp. C4 is going to the great paddock in the sky in about 4 weeks.
Part of me is sad that you're using so many of the useful parts. A couple weirdos and I were discussing a Honda K motor swapped C4 as a LeMons car. There's not going to be enough of this one left to make it happen.

I think I still have a spreadsheet somewhere of the financial shenanigans required to zero out an engineless Viper and do something similar.

no no no, you should do an electric c4. then powertrain is free!
In reply to mazdeuce - Seth :
There’s a supposed running/driving C4 nearby for $1500, just saying...
Sorry, Mazdeuce, but this update is just another financial statement. Apparently there’s a fan-base for the CAI that was on the car, and after a couple weeks on a C4 forum it sold for $400 plus shipping. After PayPal’s bite, I net $388, which brings total recoup to $998.
I’ve got a guy coming up from Cincy next weekend to get the hood and both bumpers for $1000. Only $2 can be put back in the budget but that other $998 will be nice to have. I’m watching Copart and IAA for the right Audi parts car for transaxle and associated goodies.

Good Grief !
I didn't know AOL still existed, let alone that anyone still used them.
In reply to Indy-Guy :
i knew that would get noticed. i opened my paypal account with that email account and i'm too lazy to investigate changing it. So for now, angrycorvair at aol dot com still exists for paypal usage and to receive ads for b0ner pills. which i totally don't need, in case you were curious.

you don't need the ads? or you don't need the pills? I find one statement more believable than the other.

I LOL’d because low-hanging fruit.

I guess that answers that question...
Budget adjustment: holy crap, it’s expensive to pay retail for FedEx to box and ship stuff. $17 for the 24x24x24” box plus bubble wrap, $4.50 for insurance, and $84 to ship that monstrosity from MI to MA. They cut the box down to 12” high and that dropped the shipping portion to $64. I agreed to “$425 shipped” before I knew I’d be dropping an 85 dollar bill at FedEx. I emailed the buyer and told him the cost, and said that I’d stick by $425 shipped but that I’d be happy if he wanted to throw me a little extra. He immediately replied that he’d split the packing and shipping with me, so my net after PayPal fees ended up being $(388-85+41) = $344.
Goodbye, convertible top and hard boot:
Hello $160!
Recoup is officially maxed out, and I’ve still got a mess of parts to sell.
Also, it’s good to see that someone at GM had a sense of humor, and so did their boss. See hieroglyphs below:
That’s the rear deck speaker box for the *big* Delco/Bose system.
Moar recoup. Goodbye, spare tire and carrier...
Hello, forty dollar bill!*
*forty dollar bill not shown
also did some ratchet strap engineering to make hood removal a one-person job:
Had to remove hood to gain access to the screws that hold the upper edge of the fascia. I also spent a couple minutes sanding through all the color changes:
As soon as the dude picks up the hood and both bumpers, I’m gonna pull the drivetrain and wiring, then I’ll pull the suspensions and sell off a few more bits before calling the scrap man. Then I can actually get to work on cleaning and building.
Ok so this is a minor rant post as well as a project update. And I’m as upset at myself as I am at the guy who went radio silence on me 10 days ago when I gave him a hard stop with “on 4/17 I’m selling to the next in line.” I’ve been holding the hood and both bumpers for him.
“But Angry, your ad says ‘no holds, first person with money goes home with parts.’”
yes. Yes it does. And I hate myself for not sticking to that rule. But I talked to this guy on the phone and he didn’t sound like a flake.
i did keep contact info for all the people who called about those parts, and tonight I sold the front bumper with crash beam and fog lights for $360, so I’m just mad about the time loss.
anyway, another $360 into my pocket since recoup is maxed out.

At this rate, you'll pay for the whole trip with recoup money.
Wow, that is impressive sales from a C4. I barely got $400 while parting out mine, but I don't do ebay, the shipping costs are killer.
Don’t kick yourself - you have to hold it for at least a little bit for someone to come get it. Maybe make it a 36-hour hold max before you move on to next in line?
coming along nicely!
