Oooooh shnap! It’s gonna suck to lose to a Festiva.
I will never know that.
Update 12/26/2018:
flights and hotel are booked. work travel provides enough points for comp’d flights and hotel. Into JAX friday night 12/28, get up on Sat 12/29 to do the deal on pimpM3’s C4 and break bread with pimpM3 and Stampie, then head north to Dusterbd13’s stop on the GRM railroad. Gotta try to make that kinda brief so we can cover some more miles to make the goal of stopping for the night somewhere NW of Charleston WV. Sunday 12/30 we make the final push for home. Current weather reports look OK the whole way. I hope that doesn’t change.
then the following weekend, the Corvair gets dropped off by the seller, who has family and friends not too far from here.
I have to bail on you. I completely forgot that my friends from Prague fly in Saturday afternoon and im picking them up at the airport in Raleigh.
So, i apologize for the last minute change...
In reply to Stampie :
If you're ok with that.
Or, send it back to Patrick and ill grab it when i go get svrex motor
I’m still using your other ones for diesel transport, i put sealed paint bucket lids on them with pour spouts and can transport 35 gallons of furnace fuel oil in the trunk of the wrx.
So the irony of Angry bringing my harness up north is that he’s feeding into a possible legendary duel for the ages between a pair of corvairs either this year or next. Both built by guys named Patrick.
Ill beat you both with a hackedup trailer park rescue miata.....
(Am i doing enabling/trash talking right?)

Oh yeah, you got it right.
My 8 year old was getting wound up before a soccer game with his buddies. We asked what was going on and was told they were just "talking about trash" to each other!

In the case of Challenge cars, both “trash talking” and “talking about trash” are applicable.

No sweat, my friend. Actually this saves us a couple hours and keeps us on a more familiar route. I’m sorry I won’t be able to see the Duster, the Miata, and the Driveabeater, but I’ll make it through that part of NC again someday.

Thanks. Again, wgen you come this way and i can make it work, i owe you food.
Or if i ever get to Michigan .
To make room for the project, I really have to make room for the project. To that end, I picked up a 10’x8’ steel shed kit, some foundation blocks, and some bags of sand at Menard’s.
Before shed construction, I had to do a little bit of brush clearing. I’ve never done anything with this corner of the yard because I knew I would one day be putting a shed here.
After day 1:
Day 2 (Fri 04 Jan) brought another day of unseasonably warm weather so, after handling some husband and father stuff, I got back to work. Measured, marked, and started digging to set the foundation block at the lowest point, then worked my way around from there.
As the sun set, it was still warm enough to keep working so I set up my halogen work light tripod and just kept working.
Quit at about 8:30PM with about 75% of the blocks set. I’m a bit behind on this project, as the Corvair will be here tomorrow morning!
Sunday 06-Jan-19 update: shed is almost complete, just need a few more foundation blocks and a few more bags of sand to complete floor frame support, then I can install the floor and start moving non-car stuff out of my garage. My previous Challenge bro Jay was a huge help getting it together. Then he offered to let me keep the C4 at his place until garage reclamation is complete. Jay is now my wife's favorite bad influence on me.

IDK what I'm building yet, but I've been so inspired by the members of this community that I am announcing right now that I will be bringing a car to the $2019 Challenge, and (if everything goes well with the rest of my life) it will be the most ambitious car project I've ever done. So there you have it.
EDIT: I call dibs on the number 13
damned you, Was thinking if I come back it would be my 13th challenge...
In reply to evildky :
You really should come down this year. All the cool old guys are gonna be there.

Dang, that might exclude me :)
Update 12-Jan-2019: Still working on the shed, making room for the project to begin. Laid down 4 mil poly vapor barrier:
Installed the floor frame:
And installed 23/32 CDX plywood floor:
With some additional blocking (not shown) and the floor screwed into the frame, it’s a legit place to put stuff. Tomorrow I will assemble the shelves and begin relocating stuff from the garage.
As seen in the the Minor Win thread, I scored a set of 4 car skates for $40 on CL, so those will be put to good use moving things sideways.
That’s it for today. I think tomorrow will be a big day for making room.
You'll need to log in to post.
