I've been building a mid-engine MK1 rabbit in my spare time for a while now. I got it on the road ~3 years ago. 1.8T, 012 FWD drivetrain from a VW passat, MS3Pro, custom pretty much everything.
Last year I blew it up at the track. I hastily decided to go to 2.7T from an B5 S4, and I'm in the middle of that engine swap.
I bolted the 012 up to the 2.7T using an 034 motorsports flywheel and it binds up (cant rotate the engine by hand). Also, the crank trigger doesn't line up with the hole on the tranny.
I'm guessing that I should go with a 2.8L 30v flywheel/clutch, since the B5 A4 came with a 2.8 and the 012 FWD setup and the 2.7 and 2.8 are pretty much identical.
Can someone verify this for me? On the low end, it's a $1000 guess. No one at any supplier is able to confirm for me.
Thanks for any help/info!
Hmmm, I wonder if you could check application crossover by looking up the donor years / models / parts on
Car-part.com
thats how I’ve been figuring out which cars came with which transaxles I need parts from.
Do you have a build thread on your car? Sounds awesome and pretty relevant to a build I'm slowly working on (1.8t, 012 repowered Lotus).
The B5 V6 clutch and flywheel seem like a good bet.
Did the s4’s use a motor plate between block and trans or am I remembering something else?

There wasn't a trans spacer on the S4. The donor car was auto, but I think the 6spd/auto trans just has a different bell housing.

Yeah, I think it's pretty much my only option, and the only option that makes sense. I ordered a set up from ECS; I can return it if it doesn't fit. I'll just do a test fitting without torquing it down.

I had a build thread on vwvortex, but then the browsers updated and all my picture links no longer work without intervention (you need to accept my unsigned cert)
https://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?8822913-Yet-another-MK1-rabbit-mid-engine-build-thread
There's a link in the first paragragh to one of my pictures. Click on it, accept my unsigned cert, and refresh the page and all the pictures should show up. I haven't updated it in forever, because I don't have anywhere to host pictures.
Building a 1.8T ay?

Just curious, how much do you want for the rods?
Matthew
You need to replace the auto tranny pilot bearing. They are not compatible with the manual. The 2.7 is pretty much a destroked 2.8 so every thing else bolt on wise is good.

Sorry it took so long to respond. Been busy with other stuff, and completely forgot to check back here.
I think I'm going to end up keeping that 1.8t stuff for now. There's a possibility for another 1.8t build in the future.
So, I finally got my car together, and the clutch doesn't disengauge.
I'm running a 2.7t w/ the 11mm trans-spacer, an 034 motorsport 2.7t flywheel, an RS4-style clutch, and an 012 FWS 5spd Audi trans with OEM throwout bearing/arm.
What am I missing here? I've got the f-bombs.
I also tried making a longer push-rod for the clutch slave to go for maximum movement. It ended up being about 0.500 longer (a touch longer than 11mm, not surprising).
