so, when we left off I had one running, moving under its own power, kicked by king kong neon. And two broken ones. And a buttload of parts.
11 cars in the driveway. For two drivers. 4 street legal, 1 race car, etc. much too much E36 M3.
So I started a fire sale with a few neon guys on GRM. Gots to go. Made my wife happy!
The stuff will all be delivered when I go to ohio next month. But, I needed to get the parts car out of here.
What I ended up with this morning:

it was hauled off by a rollback. Gave the scrap metal away so I didn't have to deal with it. Roughly $100 in scrap, but money well spent for space in my driveway and head.
What I kept: EVERY nut, bolt, screw, bracket, washer, etc. all of them. Bumper to bumper. These will be sent through the tumbler, then out for re-plating for reuse on the ACR. Along with all the ACR hardware. Should be able to get perfect fasteners for the resto of that car out of the buckets. I also kept new carpet and headliner, deck-lid, passengers door, wipers, weatherstripping rails, windows, window regulators, exhaust, aftermarket taillights, radiator, radiator fans, power steering parts, full harness, cluster, syked ecu, 2,4 swap and brackets, ac parts, the list goes on and on and on. I have way too much neon E36 M3 in my storage now. Way too much.
Anyway, the main reason for this car, other than interior parts and fasteners, was the 2.4 swap and 3.94/.72 trans.
These.

which, when stripped down revealed a usable clutch, no gaskets (all RTV. Every last but), very small throttle body, MPX power steering bracket and adapter, unorthodox racing under-drive pulley, eBay header, modern semisolid bobble, and a bunch of random, non stock hardware. And a brand new starter!

while waiting for the rollback, I broke the ported intake free from the ACR to reuse on the 2.4 RT. My ported head is still on the ACR, which makes me happy. I forgot how good that one turned out.

I then, after the shell left, started scrubbing parts. Lots and lots and lots of scrubbing. But the engine is clean enough for paint now! I've been waffling on how/what I wanted to do, but have finally made up my mind that the block is going hemi orange, aluminum parts staying aluminum, and steel brackets gloss black. With the neat gray powder coated valve cover, and eBay warm air intake. Anyway, here's a clean 2.4

my wife and I also used various other vehicles to get the broken RT up to in front of the work bay. Started cleaning on it as well. Forgot just how great Chrysler white paint of the era was. Its coming off like dandruff while cleaning. Also, the drivers side CV boot has disintegrated and slung grease all over hell's half acre, so ill need to get some axles on order.
However, the archaeology has been fun! Someone spent a lot of hours under the hood of this thing. All the brackets, parts, and bolts were fairly recently painted.

it also turns out that not only is the manifold smoothed on the outside, it and the throttle body are ported. The header is a 4-2-1 design that I cannot seem to find information on. New radiator and condenser, re-wrapped harness, etc. lots of care and attention to detail here.

so, that brings us up to present! Tomorrow, ill start painting stuff and assembling the 2.4 with gaskets this time. And then get the shop ready to pull another engine. I doubt ill get the swap done this weekend, as the upper gasket set still hasn't come in. gee, thanks FedEx.....
