I got more event pictures! Thanks to luke wossener and ernie torres

This is seriously my favorite car on GRM right now.
In reply to Pete Gossett (Forum Supporter) :
Thanks!
I think after fixing the ac again, and a few other tweaks, it'll be my favorite car in the fleet for a while!
Sooooo much fun. Hate to say, but the miata may get shelved for the rest of the season....
In reply to Dusterbd13-michael (Forum Supporter) :
Neons were always among my fav autox cars too, definitely more than Miatas. Which seems really weird, especially considering I've owned 2-Miatas & 0-Neons.

Sunday, after learning how to play with tire pressure, was FAR more controlled and controllable.
Apparently 48psi front, 42psi rear was a little off...
Also, i hope that the snarl was far better than that Audi or kart. It sounds amazing from the inside too!
I know what you mean about that Audi! I was working the course while it ran... accelerating towards us it had a nice turbo howl, but going away it had an unpleasant rasp!
I owe a legitimate update. But ac and belt squeal are fixed. I couldn't sleep most of last week or this weekend woth everything going on at work (found peace and direction at last) and spent Saturday and sunday at my folks place helping them and puttering with it. And my instructor took helmet cam of my teo fastest runs. Need to get that uploaded.
Camber needs fixed, power steering beeds fixed, o2 needs fixed, car needs a serious cleaning inside....
Well berkeley.
Got to within three seconds off pace for the class today, scattered the motor on the last run.
Need to figure out if another junkyard motor is legal or not for challenge under maintenance and repair clause.
Need to decide what im going to do, and then find time and money to do it. Challenge may be out for this year with everything going on. Maybe this was divine intervention. Dunno.
In reply to Dusterbd13-michael :
Well that sucks :(
The good news is I can confirm a replacement engine is indeed Challenge-legal.
Thanks all. Really didn't need this with everything going on.
Worst part is probably breaking a promise to munchkin of running it this year, and using it for nitrous testing for her 7th grade big science project.
The car can be fixed with time and money. Shes only a kid once.
Ill figure something out. Cheapest Easy button would be to find a good running 2000-2002 pt cruiser for dirt cheap and stuff a 2.4 in it. But that requires a significant amount of time to pull off. Easiest would be to drop the spare core engine off at the machine shop and pick up a fresh engine and bolt it in. But thats the most expensive option as well.....

Been telling you. Sohc bottom end. Dohc pistons. Your good head and go.
In reply to Professor_Brap (Forum Supporter) :
Maybe i haven't considered that enough. Does the low compression really kill as much as I think it will?
Ugh. That's frustrating Michael. If you want an extra pair of helping hands to get the work done (once you figure out what you are doing) Mrs. ShawneeCreek and I would be happy to come down and help. I twisted her arm: the resistance was so low it couldn't even be measured in inch-pounds.

Honestly seat of the pants you probably won't even notice if you left in the sohc pistons. Toss some dohc Pistons in and it's the same as a dohc.
Im pretty sure you can see when the motor went south in the video, as well as hear the motor knocking at the end over the other cars.
And the gentleman taping was about 50 yards away
A series of trades has netted me a running 2.4 from a 2001 pt cruiser. My scrap guy that has taken the shells of dead neons, blown up engines, etc is pulling it from one for me. Hes trading my blown up one for it, weight for weight.
Now to trade my way into the swap parts so we stay challenge legal...
Anyone want neon import tails in exchange for the modern performance 2.4 swap parts? Or a no 90 intake? Or...
Glad to see this car is coming back from the dead... again. I read through the whole thread a while ago and have been awaiting its return with great anticipation. Cant wait to see where this latest evolution will take it
Euro tails traded for gasket set and timing belt kit!
I pick up the engine today as well.
Now, to make the swap parts, or trade for them.
