Mid day status. Fuel tank mounts complete. I just went as simple as possible. It's a bar that bolts to the fuel cell mounts with a strap. The front sump has a strap that bolts to two bolts that I just welded to the floor crossbars. They won't protrude into the area for the cell so it is still reversible.
Like last year I'll update the budget at the end of the build. There isn't much here, it will be ~$6 for the windows and fender trim, $4 for the tank wrap, and $2 for metal for the mounts. The rubber is a bike tube that was punctured in like 4 spots when I rode though thorns on my last MTB outing. Stupid thorns.
Do you guys think being able to use 100% throttle vs the 90% I've apparently been able to use will make a difference? Asking for a friend.
Found I had misadjusted the throttle cable. To much slack resulted in not enough stroke. So I've fixed it.
I don't think it will actually make any kind of difference but.. it's funny.
I mean, you were still able to be cowbell-bangning off the limiter at Solo.Nats, even with 90%... so, eh?
I don't actually think there is much difference in airflow with the butterfly 90 % horizontal versus fully horizontal to be honest, but it can't hurt!
There has been a lot of not visible work.
Exhaust v. $Free.0 is done. It was a nightmare because my 2nd set of header elbows was junk so I had to flange the other exhaust. It is absolutely not the best work but it fits and works.
Fuel tank is mounted and seat is re-assembled. Car runs on the $11 fuel tank now.
Finally I got the welding done on the headlights and applied the final layer of fiberglass to the headlight fairings.
Eventually the tops will get finished but they are covered by the fairings so for time they stay.
Almost done..
Next step Bondo headlights and fairings.
Paint and install all the parts not on the car.
Permanently mount the roof and cut vents.
Mount taillights and put numbers on.
And that's it.
Non car is finish build budget.
Then obviously load up.
Finish line approaches
Headlights get Bondo.
Fairings get mounted with 3 screws.
Everything gets paint and reassembled.
These fairings really tie the room together.
I then worked to mount the roof. I bought these little over center clamps of Amazon. They are nice little things but they are tiny. I'm going to move the hooks from the decklid to be extra restraints for the roof but I shook the crap out of these and they didn't come undone so..
There are 6 on the roof and 1 on the fin.
The list is getting real short now. Trying to decide if a Livery is worth attempting. That may be left to a parking lot decision. I'll bring the paint and see how I feel.
Looking really good! Is that a 3D printed Subaru emblem? I love that

safe travels ......kick butt
Man it really came together berkeleying awesome!
In reply to maschinenbau :
It's the original emblem painted. I'm really nervous about putting it on the car. It will probably get installed at the challenge.
If earlier you had said.. nocones you moron you need vertical vents in the roof. You were right.
Such a good visual decision. I thought this was the BDT?
Good luck, safe travels. car looks awesome.
I'd suggest getting some pink yarn and tufting the rear...
everything for the drag passes, and putting a GoPro on the center mount to capture the tuft flows.
if you tape a green tuft inside, towards the the top/bottom of the hatch slots, it'll tell you if the flow is extracting or not.
ymmv
edit:
I'll also add on to the chorus of: "Ganbare!"

this is one of the best builds forum. I love how the car turned out.
Bad Decision Triangle for the win!
Congratulations
Congratulations! You crushed it...
Job well done!
Also, thanks for the education today.
Very well done. future challenge plans for the car? Further refinement? Or some other wild idea?
Thanks so much guys. I'll have more words and some pictures after I process. Current status is eating Mexican with great competitors.
I feel so honored to win such a great event and have my build added to the list of previous winners. The biggest honor was to once again win the Challengers choice. To have the competitors recognize the work and passion that went into the build is so great. I know my hands did all the work but the support of everyone that has followed and commented on the build has helped keep me motivated. Ideas that many of you have had made the car better then I could of alone and I thank you all.
Huge congrats!! Well deserved, for sure. Car looks amazing!
Big, big congratulations.
