Starting a build thread to chronicle the adventure of building a treehouse for the kiddos. Plan is to have an enclosed portion as well as a small open air area. Supported by a single large diameter oak tree.

I'm a cheap. Gonna make my own tree attached bolts using 3/4" Lag bolts from McMaster Carr and black pipe.
Loving the real time updates, feel like I'm there, except I don't have to do any of the work! Curious what these home made tree anchors are going to look like.

Yes it is happening in real time. This is my project for the weekend. The Einhorn has to wait.
Realize drilling a 3/4" hole is work, so get the drill press.
Change speed on drill press. Slow it down.
Drill press is woefully underpowered. Switched back to hand drill. Getting really hot, bit super dull. So...did what any other GRMer would do. Use death wheel.....
Also, lubricating/cooling that bit while drilling should help alot, you're removing alot of material to drill a 3/4 hole in a bed frame with a stepped bit.
This is towards the back of the wooded lot we live in.
And this is the actual tree I'm building it in. 9 feet up its still 28" in diameter.

Yeah I should have listened to you, or known better. The hack a "hole" with the cut off wheel was MUCH faster.
The steel use for bed frames is a special alloy that is really really tough to drill through. Figure on burning up a lot of bits.

Really? I just figured it was the absolute cheapest steel available. The more you know!
