More beard scratching tonight and I figure out how I'm going to weld in mounts for the radiators. Just going to use 3/4" square stock.

The collector is cut off right now so I can reorganize to fit a 2nd muffler around the frame/fuel cell/radiators.
Bill Washburn's Maxi 240RS is an inspiration for this car and Bill has been kind enough to consult on this project as well. Top notch guy.

I can't get over his car. The engineering that went into it makes my project look tame and boring.
It was a trick getting this home in the Miata. Luckily we had good weather so I could have the top down.
Meanwhile, Brown Santa dropped off my wing profile blanks from the water jet shop. These will be the end plates and wing mounts.
Damn, I can only see the pics on page 44...none of the others show up. Looks good from what I can see though.
Busy night. I'll be required to have working tail lights for NASA, so I started playing with some LED cobs. Super low power draw as you can imagine. Happy with their brightness, I dismantled my tail lights and set them in for another test. Good nuff. I'll seal things back up with these glued inside.
THEN - I got busy with my radiator mounts, which required some customization of course. The result is neat and clean though.
Hard to be mad about that. Way better than I had originally planned.
And lastly, my thin wall AL tubing came so it was time for a quick wing mockup!
The weather prediction for next week is quite warm (seasonally speaking) so I might be able to lay this up in CF and vacuum bag it. It's quite light as you can imagine, and the carbon fiber won't add much to the tally.
All of this is amazing. I love that it all has SO much function and yet subtle touches like the LED taillights that make it so functionally beautiful.
That sign is the real deal too! I mostly call the shop my fallout shelter from doing something dumb with SWMBO...
In reply to DaveEstey:
I Know! I recognized it. There was one locally to me that had been there forever. I was going to grab it one day, the building was finally about to get renovated and someone else had grabbed it. I was bummed. Original from the 50's IIRC
A new challenge awaits! How do you build an acceptable firewall over all this?
You start like this.
I need to make a second piece that goes down to the body of the car to seal things off. Once I make the air scoops for the radiators I'll put holes where I need them.
You'll need to log in to post.
