About time to upload everything on my 10 RX8
In short right now its a totally stock S2 RX8, Only mod is S1 rims on 235/40 18 Kumho XS tires and those are put on the weekend of the track day/auto-x
Some pics...
And that leads up to today, I had a free dyno thanks to a chance opportunity at an open house and now I can tell you how much of a turd this thing is
Dyno run
162hp 114tq But still love it just needs a bit of work
More pics and hopefully a build here sooner rather than later
Ninja edit, old auto-x video
Here
Sweet. It'll make a great track car. I had a blast racing in C-Stock auto-x with one.
I assume it's a 6-speed?
In reply to JohnyHachi6:
It is, Need to do my 1st auto x this year though, fending now at this point!
Pity the S2 cars are so different from the S1 cars.
Funny thing: I went and got a set of S2 rims for my S1 car. How well do the 235 size tires fit?
In reply to Brett_Murphy:
Quite nice TBH, it has more of a meaty look over the rim witch is nice to piss off the stance crowd! No real adverse effects aside from a slight drop in mpg.
S2's changes are more in the trans and some internal engine mods/PCM and the cat back exhaust aside from that you can use a bunch of S1 stuff
Well its been a long time for updates So lets start.
Was able to score a test pipe from a friend for the best price of all FREE!!!! With the stock cat back it does raise sound levels but not too bad for something I'm not currently DDing, and if you mind backfire/fireballs it can happen every so often (great for tailgaters!) also that cat weighs a metric E36 M3 ton.
Have gone with a set of new OEM coils (no pics due to laziness)
The first event of the year for me was with VMSC in march and holy hell was it wet and cold (low 40's,) needless to say on Kumho XS tires i had ZERO grip and being the 1st of the season (let alone on tarmac) i was pathetic but still pushed on.
This was the latest event with VMSC@VMP mothers day weekend and with nice heat in the day was able to get plenty of grip but that does not translate in to skill (mid pack PAX and raw running times) and have learned that sway bars (and more seat time) are on the list.
Very nice. I have read that the RX-8 is a good sports car and are not in high demand.
114tq? My carb'd 13b made 128. That seems low, those renesis are torquey with the fancy manifolds.
That car is all about Chassis Chassis Chassis.
In reply to fidelity101:
That was with aftermarket coils with about 5-10k on them, would also explain the drop at the top of the powerband.
In reply to Mr_Clutch42:
It would surprise you the amount of people that are baffled/scared by the simplicity of the rotary!
And yes you can pick up an S1 rolling chassies for around 5k and a runner for 6-8.
There was also a buyers guide a few years ago for those looking.

Well what do I do Mr. Rotorstien?

Use a higher correction factor on the dyno.
Another RVA Bro! Welcome to the club!
Well stuck in Baltimore at the moment, but intend on being down there by the end of the year!
In reply to JtspellS:
I have Hotchkis anti-roll bars F&R and Racing beat endlinks in my RX8. Huge improvement in grip and tire wear due to less camber change in the front. I will know more after my Grattan event at the end of June.
In reply to Swank Force One:
Yeah i think the dyno is too conservative.
it has a carbon fiber driveshaft i just dont see 42% loss in drivetrain being realistic
I know where you can get an RX-8 rolling chassis for a LOT less than $5k.
So long winter means buying parts right? So 33mm hotchkis sway bar, braided brake lines, braided clutch line, and new DOT4 for it as well as service items.
Excited to get back in to it!
Nice merkur in one of the first pics. :)
Are you going to be there on the 29th? If so stop on by.
In reply to catapultkid:
I'm going to see if I can make it down thete, I don't think the XS's are worth a damn being as I had no choice but to leave them on during the winter but hopefully I'll be able to get a new set shortly (something different though, the RX is too light to get the XS's warm at an autocross)
DzIIs. Thats what we ran last year on the merkur. Fanastic tire that is very predicable. Id do a 235ish on the rx8 And get the pressures set.
I didnt like the kumhos either. They always got greasy on me in the hot months and never warm enough in the cold months.
On time trial runs or HPDE the grip is unreal and stays there as long as you keep the pressures around 32 psi and tons of heat in them.
Will look at the Dz2's and most guys run a 245/40/18 on local levels but guys at nationals are stuffing a 275/35/18 on that damn thing!
So here is the difference between a stock RX8 bar and a 33mm hotchkis bar, even on the softest setting the difference is substantial.
Can feel where the suspension is not quite keeping up now with the transitions so that would have to be the next step, also thinking of up graded 12mm end links but we will see soon enough.
Will do the brake/clutch lines when I have more time, this was a bit of a beast to wrestle in.
