Mrs. Deuce is a special kind of awesome.

also i have a seething amount of jealousy for your kids. I grew up around boats, but rarely got to take the controls. powersports and wheeled on land vehicles my parents had zero interest in letting me near.

with the power of hindsight....maybe for the best..

There is risk with these little bikes on small tracks. Is it more than with street cars on big tracks? More than stage rally?

there is a higher risk of a smaller injury... IMHO broken bone, dislocation.. yada yada..

there's a much lower risk of major injury if the speeds are where i expect they are..

that's not to say i don't think you're insane.. and i have no interest in following you on this one..

but your logic to do it seems sound to me..

All I can add to that is hurts to fall.  Haven't fallen off a bike in almost 20 years, then dropped the little rebel today in the yard and it hurt. Some reason at 35 it hurts more than when I was 15.

Well, I lowsided my first time out, high sided, caught it, and then fell over anyway my second time. I'm 2/2 so far. Wearing full gear helps. A lot.

My motorcycle buddy is really a terrible person. He somehow enjoys all the same weird mechanial stuff that I do. Not good. Case in point, he just brought this home. Aprillia RS50. I wanted one so bad in about 2001 that Mrs. Deuce remembered what it was when I sent her the picture.

This is the second coolest bike he's bought since I left a month ago.

I had to look up the specs, that's a neat bike.

also i knew full size 250's were a thing.. i didn't realize full size 50's were a thing.. abeit mostly overseas..

it's like the gastropod sportbike..

A friend of the family had two of those when I was a teen. I got to ride it around our big circular driveway. Thinking back, that may have influenced some of this. I'll probably shop for one eventually. Check that, I'll certainly shop for one eventually.

I 'think' the Aprilla was the only one legally sold here, and only for those few years. It's a fairly rare odd bike. Any wonder why I'm excited about it? laugh

You inspire me, my friend. You're never too old to chase your dreams. (I realize we're the same age, more to the point it's always time for fun and sport.)

Got back from summer last night. Why is it still so hot in Texas? sad

Went to the track, bought a membership for the rest of the year and did about 30 laps. My phone says it's 96 with a heat index of 108. I'm so weak. But in my defense, it was hot. Going to take the kids to the water park in a minute.

Membership is $100 a month. Autocross laps cost me $5-8 each. Track laps are somewhere around $5 each as well, though longer with less turns. It will be interesting to see how many laps I can get in before my wife gets grumpy. laugh

My motorcyle buddy makes me feel suuuuuuper normal. This is how he got to the track today.

And then we rode, swapped bikes, had fun. The XR is breaking rear spokes. Looks like about six on one side is enough to make things wobbly. So that puts me down a bike. And I only have one bike. Or do I?

GROM!!!

The XR100 has 7 broken spokes in the rear. Six in a row on the drive side. I think it's because the wheel was laced wrong and I'll get into that later when the new spokes come and I learn to build a wheel. In the mean time...... GROM!

You'll see that it has a CMRA sticker on the side.

And also a TMGP.

Still has the owners manual under the seat. Appears to be a 2014 and the sticker on the frame agrees.

The odometer shows 4500 miles. The word is that the bike has never been street registered and all of those miles have been on track. My riding buddy picked it up this summer. He's one of those guys who seems to score the deal of a lifetime a couple times a month. He bought it for $1800. Used Grom's seem to float in that $1800-$2k range around here, so why is this a deal? Parts.

Ohlins rear and something in the forks that I'm not sure is working properly, need to investigate that.

Fancy exhaust. I assume gobs of power. Also a different intake for even MORE power. This is like putting fancy parts on a Miata. Very important.

And little bit and pieces like adjustable levers and higher pegs and little bits and baubles.

The tradeoff is that it doesn't have things like turn signals and registration which I didn't really want anyway, so we're cool. It also has every bolt that needs to be drilled for safety wire already drilled. A lot of the wiring needs to be re-done but that's the easy part. So why did I buy this? My wife just asked me the same question. Race bike. The XR100 is great and I love it, but making it competitive in any class is difficult. Not that my ability isn't the big issue, but it's nice not to be hamstrung right out of the box. My goal for bikes it to actually race at some point and this is the tool for that. It rides nice and is much more willing to turn in than the XR though I think I'm faster on the XR right now purely because I'm more comfortable. I'm going to ride both. Build skills. Loan out the XR to friends who want to try this track silliness with me.

I’d like to think you bought it because i sent you a picture of a grom from the indycar race at mid ohio a couple weeks ago, because i am captain enabler.

I'm not saying it was the only reason, but I had talked myself out of one before that picture. Riding this bike on track yesterday sealed the deal.

First day of scholl for kids 2-3-4. I went over to the after lunch and did three 15-18 minute sessions. It took two hours from the time I left to the time I was home with my gear hung up. Somewhere between 30 and 40 laps. I should start counting. If all goes well I should get to do this twice a week and when it gets cooler should be able to increase my lap count to more like 50. I think a 400 lap month is possible.
