If about all you are gonna do is autocross it, Just put in a buttload of Gear 4.11-4.56 or some dirt car Gear 5's-up and use 2 and 3rd.
I mean How much are you Shifting, going back and forth from 2nd to 3rd is better than trying to find 1st. really what is the top speed Goal In High Gear, I would think 75-80 would be about all you can get before the Next corner in Autocross anyway.
That is why I was going to use a Powerglide, they can pull 60-70 in First if the engine can rev. I recently found my Dream tranny so the auto will be put away.
We generally launch in 1st, try to find second, and leave it there. Theres a lot of places where different gearing would ve faster, but....
Honestly, theres still more can tjan driver at this point. So the shifter is academic. A 5 speed would be nice, especially for the gearing splits.
It would also be nice to have reverse.
Again, at thispoint, its really good enough until the driver improves.

I Know you know I have those 3 speed /with OD Ford tranny's And I bet they have Reverse Too ! that could be your Ticket for real Steep rear end Gears. show this to Dallas see what he thinks
Clutch gone again. But 2nd in novice! And he KNOWS where 2 seconds of improvement were.
Dallas has been bit. Hard.
The amc will be a dedicated c prepared car.
Time to find him a helmet of his own so he stops using mine.

I've been known to "win" free ones every May...

He looked decent out there . . . I was working course when he was driving both days. One run had spectacular cone destruction, but the others looked like pretty good lines from where I stood.
Definitely can't argue with his times, but it does seem like the car will do more as Dallas' skills improve. (As I told you, I'm in the same situation. )
Great to meet you both!
I ran across the front spring perch tool while unpacking form the challenge. I will have to get that to Dallas so he can adjust those corner weights a little better.
Cool. Dad is supposed to be getting with you about meeting up for parts for Kevin. Could he grab it from you then?
And we were light on the right front. That means to add preload to the left front, correct?
Additionally, dallas swears the rear end of the car is too stiff. I think softeing the rear will induce understeer. Is that right?
MC ......is 'GARY' still sportin' the WOO wing for CP? Congrats Dallas!!!
Yessir!
We lost the tassels on the tow home from Gainesville though
Are tassels CP legal??????

Softening the rear will improve rear grip. Whether or not that will induce push depends on which side of neutral the car is currently on.
Hell, if they bumped us into xp for stripper tassels, I'd have to write a complaint to scca.
Now, if we added a pole and a woman of loose morals to the car to match, i would say safety steward would have a valid point....
Car is slightly understeer now. So it would make it MORE difficult to rotate, correct?

Maybe. Where is it understeering - corner entry, mid-corner, or exit? Is it only on slow corners?
Mud corner. Slow corners from what I learned from Dallas.
So I was just sifting through photos from the Challenge for tomorrow's live show. Thought you might enjoy this one.

That is an amazing picture. Thank you so much for sharing it.
But, more importantly, thank you for giving me an outlet to channel creativity through. The challenge, and this community, helped dallas and i far more than anyone else ever has. And for that, i am grateful.

There's a disturbance in the force going on here. What gives?
How much can you take out of the budget if you pull the 302 and the 3 speed? A 5.3, a TH350, and whatever gets you a manual valve body sounds nice...
What are your goals?
Fuel injected? Power adders? How much power do you want to make?
The short version is that dallas may be able to trade the 302 drivetrain for a 2000 extended cab 4x4 Silverado with a bad trans that has been hallf partwd out. Plan is tentatively to stuff a stock 5.3 in it, hooked up to whatever auto we can trade the rest of the truck for. Pulling the wing gets us $100 back in budget, and theres other ford stuff that can come out at the same time.
Power would be stock 5.3, with maybe a snort of nitrous.
Im not sure how to go about it yet, as the deal was written in pencil last night, and ive never ls swapped anything.
You have a resource.
seriously though, pull entire engine harness uncut. Then print out the diagram from lt1swap.com for your year donor and sit down to prune any unnecessary stuff and make a simple fuse box for the powered stuff. Text me later

It was easier than I thought it would be the first time we did it. The stock PCM provides good troubleshooting tools as well to tell you if you got the wiring wrong.
This is why i love this bar. You two are the reason we'r even considering this.
