From roughly the time my wife and I decided to have a child I started planning this build.
My son will be a year old at the beginning of June and I intend to give him the car then.
Car was purchased for a yard sale for $5 or $10.
Started the project yesterday.

Plan is to lower it, chop the top, paint and a few other mods. Was going to go more extreme but time is short and a power wheels is next so some of the more in depth ideas will go to that.

Nice. My kids had one of those as well I always thought the wheels needed a bit of an upgrade. Never got around to it they didn't love it.
I don't want to be the voice of reason, I hate that, but they are away from the ground for a reason. When little legs are pushing them along their feet move under the seat to get a good push, think about sitting on an office chair and moving it forward with just your feet. If you drop it too far then they can't get a good push. The reason most kids outgrow them is that their feet start getting stuck under it. There is a reason the Cozy Coupe is a best seller, it's a good design. Now, if you're just going to push him, no worry, but I'd hate for him to HAVE to roll low and slow.
The Steering is Rather Complex ( Non-Existent) And the Lack Of Floor boards is an Issue with Feet being Drug under the seat.
Cozy Coupe Wiki:
"First sold in 1979 as one of the first molded-plastic toy cars sold in the United States, it was called the "world's best-selling car for much of this decade" by The New York Times in 1998, outselling the Honda Accord and Ford Taurus.[3] By 1991, the Cozy Coupe was selling 500,000 units per year, making it the top-selling model in the United States, outselling the 399,000 Accords and 299,000 Taurus vehicles sold that year.[4] By 1997, its sales of 313,000 units in the US and another 100,000 sold in the United Kingdom in 1997, would have made it the fifth-best-selling car in the US among real vehicles.[3]"

Working on rear suspension here. Dialing in track width, ride height and body clearance.
Test fit, trim and repeat.

Good ride height here and fender clearance looks good. Tested with a little weight.

Pics showing the track width. Next up is the front axle. Still toying with exact placement for that.

I dig it. My daughter will be getting MINE from when I was a kid.
Yes - I was obsessed enough with it that my parents kept it this whole time.

Nope. I’m on my phone right now and haven’t figured out pic posting on a mobile yet, but google ‘hot rod crazy coupe’ and you’ll find this is uncharacteristically tame in the grand scheme of things for GRM.

Yep pretty mild overall. Waiting for the power wheels to get too crazy!
Saw one like this at the last car show I went to...
