Got my DME but I am in the process of installing a wideband o2 as well as installing a header and opening up the exhaust. I finally got a hold of a good base tune for the ECU so heopefully this week it'll fire and keep running. I did get it to start up but it ran horribly due to a bad base tune.

Here's some more pictures:

This is showing the lower rad mount I had to fab up to accommodate the Turbo rad I installed. I kept my NA fans and just made some small tabs to pick up the existing mounting holes. Also shows the K&N filter that I still need to fab a shroud for.

This shows the Bosch bypass valve setup and also the custom MAF housing I made up.

My current project, the AEM UEGO wideband o2.

This is a good overhead shot of the SC showing the boost gauge fitting, also note the SS upper rad hose and the cranckcase vent inlet on the SC inlet.

This shows my header and the challenges of piping it up under the car. It's a nice piece but man is it close to the engine.

overhead shot of the header.

Today I hope to have the exhaust and wideband in. Gonna go watch the Italian Grand Prix now.

Thanks.

Today I welded in the bung for the wideband o2 into my header and built a 2.5" SS mid-pipe. It's on the car now. Hoping to fire up the car tonight!!

It's alive!!! I just drove it around the street. Sounds incredible with the header and exhaust and the blower whine is fantastic! I only gave it part throttle and it pulls hard. Love it!

I rebuilt the snout on Friday night. the original coupling was toast, as was the front oil seal. I cleaned everything up really well and installed the new parts, blower is so nice and smooth now. I moved the K&N filter to a better location but I still ordered a drycharger cover for it. I read lots of bad stuff about wet K&N filters killing engines.

I also beefed up my SC mount by adding some nice gussets and I improved my lower rad mount.

Here's a short(terribly filmed) YouTube video of the noise:

Thanks. I just took it for a little more of a run. I really feel like I need to take it to a Pro tuner on a chassis dyno to get the most out of it.

Cool. It's neat to see a supercharged 944. Looks well done too.

Hmm. Would that supercharger put out enough for a v8? Im seriously debating this the more I reread the thread.

I'm pretty sure you'd want the Eaton m112. Thats what is commonly used on a Mustang. the M90 was kind of undersized for it's original purpose on the Ford 3.8L so it's pretty much perfect for the 2.5L 4 cylinder. Id love to do another blower setup on my Honda Ridgeline V6.

Johnny,

Amazing build thread and build, seriously love the car. So much so that I have purchased an M90 for my 84 944 and will look to be doing this in the near future, but before I dive too deep, I would like to know what kind of endeavor I have ahead of me.

How much can I leave stock (and obviously keep the car running happily)? What is a reasonable budget for the build? Is it vital to run an intercooler? I am a college student and this is my daily driver so I certainly would prefer to keep the price as reasonable as possible.

If you have anymore hints or suggestions please don't be afraid to share.

hey, I'm glad you like my build. As far as what kind of endeavour is in front of you? I am a professional Tig welder that has almost 20 years of experience in the brewery, pharma industry. I've also done fab on many cars including a world challenge Lexus and 6 second pro-Mod drag cars. I built one of the first V6 powered(and maybe only) Mercury Tracer's in the world in 2000-2001 along with countless other modified Hondas. What I'm getting at is I have a bunch of experience. I'm not saying you can't do it, and i'll happily help you, but for a daily driver? Sorry but I have to advise against that. This took me quite some time to sort out and I'm still sorting. Sadly, winter's here so I've put it away but I have a HUGE list of work to complete. I would say it is vital to run an intercooler as the M90 generates tremendous heat. As far as a budget? I've got around $2500 into my build. That includes the amazing Rogue Tuning DME work, chip emulator and datalogger and brand new injectors, as well as many other required items. This is NOT an easy project if your goal is to do it right. If you do it wrong, you'll blow your motor.

My advice, park the 944 and get a beater for a daily driver if you want to supercharge the Porsche.

In reply to johnnytorque:

Thanks for the advice, it is noted. Most likely. the supercharger wont be going on for a while, but when it does the certainly will be parked so it can be done correctly, the advantage I have is living in Florida so I can work on the car whenever! Whenever I do start the project I will be sure to make a thread so that if there is anything you may have advice for it would be greatly appreciated. I am currently looking into a Microsquirt for the car so that running the super charger will be easier, and the plan to get an intercooler is certainly in the works.

Again thank you for the advice, and I hope you get all of the kinks worked out soon.

My advice with the DME is to look into Rogue Tuning. He has all the hard work done, it's pretty much plug and play.

In reply to Flight Service:

I don't like the power delivery characteristics of turbo cars, and besides if I wanted a turbo car, Porsche built really nice 944 Turbo's from 86-89, it would have made more sense to just go buy one if I really wanted a turbo . I wanted something different, and I wanted the sound a blower makes. My car has been in our family for close to 15 years so selling it wasn't an option. I have always wanted to supercharge a car, It was well worth it.

I just bought a mid-rise scissor lift for my little garage, now the real work can begin...

Costco.ca had a great deal last month on their Danmar mid-rise scissor lifts. While not ideal for undercar work, the fact the 944 is a transaxle car means the only thing I can't really access in the exhaust and torque tube. Everything else is easy to get at. This allows me to work while standing on suspension and brakes while also facilitating easy oil changes and under engine work. So far it has been amazing and I've only done a few tasks with it.

here's some pics of the car on the lift:

My next project is to replace the 5-rib pulleys on the engine with newer gen 6 rib pulleys and I also purchased a quick change hub and 6 rib pulleys for the blower. This will allow me to use a stock size(5 psi) and also try a 7 psi pulley for even more fun.

Great undercar access to the pulley setup.

Spring/Summer 2015. I live in the great white north and come November, toys get put away. It's a sad time, I so wish we had Florida type weather in Canada.
