the lobster claws took a while to grow on me when i still had my cayman, but now I like them a lot. Dont think I've ever seen them on a non-porsche though. Looks good!
The b5 had developed a missfire that I presumed was ignition control modules as that's a pretty common failure on these. I had some NOS on the shelf and tossed them on only for it not to fix the issue. It was better but still chugging like an old washing machine. New plugs made it a bit smoother but still missfiring. This was the primary o2 wiring...
Oof. Not good. A new o2 sensor actually came with body side connector housing. I just needed to grab some new pins and I was golden. Smooth as silk. 20 year old, 325k mile german silk.
At the last Luckydog race the ramptruck decided it didn't want to start when I wanted it to. Like, when I was trying to winch the racecar onto the back. I replaced a single batter with dual optimas. Let's hope their not trash. Added a shutoff switch since the truck sits a lot.
I wanted bigger brakes and one of the only brake upgrades I found required bigger wheels. I'm not sold on the look yet but we'll see if I can stomach the 22s before I slap the brakes on for good.
I need to grab a 1 5/16 deep socket to torque the wheels down and check for rubbing. If these stay the truck will also get lowered.
Big surprise I found some rust on the defender when I was swapping the fenders/wings out. Cut some new metal for the bulkhead. One of the only steel parts of the truck.

Thanks! It's weird how stock wheels on a car are meh but you throw them on something else and they pop. I always thought they looked like trash but they've grown on me terribly. I had this set powdercoated "aztec gold" which has a ton of green and pearl in it. That picture (without sun) does NOT do it justice.
So the 22s look... cool. But I think it's off proportionally if I keep the stock 16s on the back. I ordered some 19.5s to see if that would make the back not look so weird. Worst case scenario I'll keep the 22s for the c50 and run 19.5s all the way around on the c30. Drop spindles and centercaps are still on the way.
So, a little work on the SS.
It had long tube headers, no cats and what I thought was cheap full length exhaust on it when I got it. I found the headers were really nice ceramic coated American Racing Headers but the mufflers were stock. I'm not sure why but they chopped off the quad tips and put on a single 3" tip that actually was rubbing on the lower valence. I picked up a Solo Performance axle back setup that went without mufflers in favor of some adjustable J-pipes (Kind of helmholtz-ish?). It's loud. Really loud. I'm going to play with the pipes to see how a longer or shorter J pipe affects tone but it's already a lot higher pitched. Primarily I'm just happy to have the quad tip setup back instead of the corner store exhaust job that was a single pipe on each side. No pictures of that because it was terrible.
It has a bit of a cyclical thump that I'm leaning towards a being a bearing noise but the first thing I usually do to diagnose those kind of vibrations is swap wheels around to eliminate bent wheels/messed up tires. I also knew that I didn't like how much the stock wheels tucked in after lowering so much so I grabbed a set of Kansei KNP wheels in 19x9.5 with 255s in the front and 285s in the back. It's amazing how this car just swallowed up the 285s with hardly an issue. I rolled the rear but that's just because it's as low as it is.
Well, I was going to attach more pictures of the wheels but for some reason it's erroring out. Probably my work's firewall or something.
I see all this, and all I could think is, imagine the machine you would have if you just picked one friggin car and focused on it.

What brand of Aztec Gold is this, I have access to a large powder coat line and wheels.

I have similar thoughts about my own choices in vehicles sometimes. To me the variety is fun. When I have time, I enjoy building cars almost as much as driving them. And if I had a super nice, super expensive car, I would not drive it like I would a cheaper car. Worry about paint scratches, expensive parts breaking, etc, etc.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Don't bring thoughtful logic into my asylum.

I looked through emails and text messages and I can't find the website they used to order the powder but I reach out to them and see if I can get a brand for you!
Well for some reason it won't let me upload the pictures of the car/wheels but it will let me upload this;
The SS comes stock with coolguy brembos. But I can't leave well enough alone and I bought ubercoolguy brembos from a CTSv. Also uses a slightly larger, slightly coolguy-er 2pc rotor from ACDelco.
Weird, I cropped the image slightly and it finally uploaded.
Real high tech getting them to fit in the back. Amazon fender roller and amazon heat gun. I'm pretty sure I didn't crack the paint even!
How did that ramp truck turn out with bigger rear wheels? I agree that it's kind of an odd juxtaposition as it sits

Funny enough, I haven't thrown them on yet. I moved it up to my other shop and when it's too far away my ADD makes me forget about working on it. I got the wheels but haven't decided whether I should order tires and test fit or just test fit the wheels first to make sure they'll work...
If everything fits I think it'll take away most of that weirdness that immediately draws your eye. I think I've been putting it off because I don't have drop spindles yet.
Life has been hitting me weird lately.
I was puttering along with the last bits of the a/c install in the defender and noticed the fan clutch seemed super stiff so I replaced it. It wasn't until I got the new one did I realize why it was so stiff.
Old;
New;
The previous owner had through bolted it. I presume when it failed at some point. Wow. Seeing the other hacks on this truck it doesn't exactly surprise me.

That is literally my job.

Wanna sell your stock calipers? I don't like red calipers.
Want to trade? I could send you my stockers and whenever you get around to it you could send me yours. I kind of like having some brembos around for weird projects. I have to make sure the big ones fit under the new wheels though.
