With the history that this car has and this result, it makes for an epic story.
Kinda makes me wonder why I am even going to this event with the S-Car-Go?
Oh wait...beer BS and road-trip. Yeah. That works.

I’m going to play and have fun with my friends and family. I have a challenge trophy already so no more room on the mantle.
The only person who should go to the Challenge to beat Patrick is Patrick. Everyone else should go to watch Patrick beat Patrick.
In reply to mazdeuce - Seth :
Perhaps they could compete in a trilogy of events, we'll call it the Patrick vs. Patrick Hat Trick...oh wait the challenge already is 3 events. Perfect!
Im gonna beat Patrick!
Well, one of them at least...
This car is gonna blow some minds. And wads. Its chubby-riffic!

How embarrassing. Don't wear your sweat pants.

Then he’d be BISP-michael
I really wish I could come watch this thing run with everyone else. Seems like a lot of great cars coming out.
Edit: Hatching dreams of riding motorcycle to challenge from Thursday until the bitter end, taking photos, submitting best shots for the low low price of "just exposure", winning awards, starting new life on the road shooting 35mm film and somehow making a living doing it from the back of a Kawasaki.

"Oh my god! I should have worn my white pants!"
Victor hooked me up with an awesome care package including some new old stock taillight and front signal lenses that he grabbed for me the last time he was in Germany. Also in box was the 12v wiper motor from a later model as well as a sleek 3 piece front bumper that i think i may like better than the original pair of smaller but bulkier ones
How is September 28 for anyone? Knurled is going to come sometime after work and do the brake lines with me and my new mastercool flare tool.
I promise i did something yesterday, and today i hope to find all the bits to be able to post a diy steering column build instructional. That should be relatively easy on my (very sore) back.
Worked late every day this week, driving 90+ miles with metal on metal rear brake on the truck, so i fixed that yesterday.
Also ordered new sfi harnesses, must finish roll bar before anything that can catch fire welding goes in.
Steering crap:
flange bearing through firewall
Scrap roll bar cutoff tube was the basis
Doing a counter bore to fit a standard 3/4” shaft bearing
Upper bearing fit
I chopped up a broken column from trash that was from a neon that had the lock hammered out and swiped the lower bearing, shaft, and universal joint from. The shaft is 3/4” ID so my 3/4” upper shaft slipped in and welded solid. Neon lower bearing is tapped into the shaft, upper bearing is same but will hit it with a little epoxy on final assembly, then there’s a bushing, a shaft collar, and the hex for my quicm release. Neon lower was a pivot for tilt column, popped the pin from that mechanism and i’m left with a nice mount to bolt to, and when located i can weld on a mount tab that will bolt to the dash support.
finished product less mounting hardware
I don’t think you guys realized just how dangerous I’ve become now that i have a lathe
Steering shaft is hanging up drying, once that is dry i can install it and hook up the column to make my brackets. I’m not going to lie, I’m feeling the pressure.
in other news my truck gave me the “150 miles before 5mph limit DEF system failure see dealer” warning. Again. The first time was 2 years ago on the way back from the challenge and we freaked out in West Virginia on a sunday with no dealers open. We got down to 20 miles then stopped to eat, and when done the message was gone. It’s throwing 2 DeF related codes right now, and berkeley that bullE36 M3. I need my truck to work, i can not take it to the dealer until late next week when i have something close with small tools that i can drive my car for. Unfortunately between now and then there are way more than 150 miles. Dealers really should have dirty loaner big trucks for commercial customers who pay a E36 M3 ton of money for big trucks because they need them for work. I’m at 3.5 years and 59k into my 5/100 powertrain warranty and just ordered the balance of my warranty delete kit for a holy berkeley that’s a lot of money sum, guaranteed delivery by friday to install saturday so i have a truck to pull my trailer next week.
Also i think i boned something up when i did the back brakes because the one i did Saturday is warm and stinky and squeaky. YAY. I’m hoping to be done early enough tomorrow to address that and totally not work on the car.
I’m giving myself 3 weeks to get very close to done or i’m going to panic and look for a backup plan
In reply to Patrick :
berkeley that! You’re too stupid to know it’s impossible! Now tuck your chin and keep swinging!
oh wait, that was for *this* patrick. Sorry bro, I got nothing. Do what’s right for you, even if it makes you a big hairy Bob Costas.
edit: I keed, I keed. I’ve worn those shoes. They gave me blisters.
Column tacked in, need to make a lower mount to tie to the neon lower bearing casting. Position is comfortable, extremely happy with how it came out. I really hate aluminum seats, and will buy something better after the challenge. I’m very tired and just locked some palm meat in some vise grips, so it’s time to stop before i get really hurt

That was almost my exact thought when I saw the tube having its ID resized.
I'd sell you a backup plan, except you sold it to me specifically so you wouldn't have a backup plan, so no deal.
Plan B's kill plan A's.
Let me know if you need a hand beforehand, otherwise I'll be there on the 28th.
You'll need to log in to post.
