The other day i dumped a little gas in the carb and it fired briefly. Today I did this

Plodding forward a little every day is making quick progress. Today the lower radiator hose I ordered for a 77 Monza v8 came, based on the presumption that it's a small car with the right size hose to fit the pump. Turns out I couldn't have made a better choice, no cutting, went right on.
And here's how my reengineered alternator brackets came out

Patrick, did you ever get one of the shirts Jim had made for the Wartburg when we did the trifecta of crap? I came across an extra one yesterday in basically new condition, I'll send it to you if you don't have one.

the lower alternator bracket is so ridiculously overbuilt that there is no fore and aft movement with the top bracket not in place, let alone with it on. Top is a stock gm bracket from a 72 coupe deville with a 472.

Coolant coming from evil*mart today because I can't be bothered to go to the store on a Saturday. Plowing forward with huge progress on "ditch everything that doesn't belong to a vehicle I own and clean out all those crates, boxes, and bins that i jammed on shelves to deal with later" garage tidying. Just call me Marie berkeleying Kondo over here

In for the final lap on this. As mentioned, how far off is a real shake down test?
Not in a hurry because it's january. Have to put the glass in, figure out seats, bleed brakes, install shifter, make gauge harness, paint and install the back floor under the seat(probably start painting today it's sunny out). The scirocco seats I love but they're just not going to work well.

shifter in. Trans cooler lines leaking at transmission, wonder if it's the fittings because neither is leaking at the cooler and they have different hose ends? Idk will investigate.
Chopped fittings off and put new ones on, have not started it yet to check. Nothing appeared wrong, think it was a bad batch of fittings or something. Ran vacuum line to trans and distributor. I still can't make my mind up on seats. Everything I have is too modern or does not have a pass through for a 5 point harness. I will not put aluminum seats in anything anymore.
got the back deck tinwork made for the balance of the rear firewall and put a harness bar across the rear tubes of the cage so we can put 5 points in the back too so little heads don't move around. All the bars are far away from where any small fleshy bits will be, so I don't mind taking the kids around the block or to a show. Continuing with the theme, the package tray metal was a garbage night shelf pickup.
