A free Saab!
My wife's girlfriend bought this Saab 900S new in 1992 and loved it for 180k miles. So much that she bought another one. This one sat in her driveway for four years, she didn't want to sell it, couldn't imagine her baby in the hands of some kid so she gave it to me thinking I could give it a second life. It's a 5spd, two door hatch with blue leather.
I just got it home yesterday so still evaluating. Meese have had their way with this thing for a while. Nests under the hood; opened the air box and OMG the SMEEELLLLLLLL !! Mouse died in there and was covered in maggots, smell actually permeated the plastic. Hopefully power wash it today. Windows go up & down slowly, as does the sunroof (battery's on the way out).
No specific plans except to raise it a bit and make it a bit of a Rally car.
Is that a Norse god hanging on the fence? If he doesn't approve I sure do........hell yeah on the the rally car stance!!!
Of course it is, right next to the cross made of railroad stakes.

I love those cars, but when I first read
My wife's girlfriend
I thought maybe this thread was going somewhere else
Congrats! I've always wanted to save one of these. The curved windshield offers quite the view.
I was going to say a free airplane but that's a pretty good answer too.
The 900 is one of my favorite SAAB body styles.
I've always thought these were one of the ugliest cars ever put on the road. The Aztec is a beauty queen by comparison.
But...5spd and 2 door has some redeeming qualities, and they do just sort of look RIGHT all ralleyed out.
Yeah Suprfly, I get it. Not exactly the same ring as when she introduces my friends as "my husband's boyfriend".
Trick question. Nothing's more expensive than a cheap boat.
When I was growing up, a friends dad had a 900 Turbo. Black on black. Man I loved that car. It was the coolest thing on 4 wheels in the neighborhood.
Just in time to prepare for Ice Racing.
To answer your original question once and for all time, a free 911 shell. Nice going on the Saab btw. Also, remove the offending interior because racecar.
I don't remember if it was a 900 or a 9000 that raced with AMEC, but they put a lexan sheet behind the driver and gutted the floor, inner door stuff etc., adding lightness to the back half.
I'm commenting mainly because I know were an '88 (?) turbo is sitting around ("it just needs an ECU")... and I'm interested to see how "not-cheap" this ends up
Wow, that's a great find, certainly cheaper than a free boat or airplane (hopefully )
Check for rust around the driveshaft tunnels.
Watching with interest, as someday I'll get my C900 up and running.
Neat score! The0retical beat me to the airplane joke, so I just want to know with the ornate red pillar in the yard is...
The red thing is an ole hitch'n post. That would be where you would tie off your horse. My guess is the house is pre-1910.
Common phrase in sailboat racing..."it could be worse (more expensive), it could be airplanes."
Ahhh, the thick plottens!
My son loves a 900 remembering fondly the one we had when he was coming up. He says in his neck of Connecticut you see convertibles all day, never old hard tops. He's called and texted quite few times with build suggestions. One particularly lengthy conversation he rolled on and on about 900s, I told him about the 96 I ice raced but would like to make a street car of one. He found a barn find 96 in Queens, NYC. He offered to buy it, drag it to his house where I meet him with the 900 on a trailer and we do a swap.
I think I will.
John, my house is 1894 but the hitching post is from where I used to work. It's cast steel with a cannon ball welded on top, place started in 1813, so who knows how old the post is. SWMBO was the Housing Manager for military families on post, she found a dozen of these in a basement, they were going to throw them out; I saved two.

What bullet are you contemplating for the 96?
Question: What's more expensive than a cheap boat?
Answer: Getting TOO friendly with your wife's girlfriend.
I think it's a euphemism for "motor"
i.e. 3 or 4 cyl... IIRC
