So, guys I have to be honest... there are no challenge plans here... per se.

This was in a friend's back yard and he tried (is still trying) to pay me for hauling it off.

Interestingly enough his home owners insurance said it had to go to get renewed.

That was a 1st for me... but a lot of companies are trying to get out of florida, so meh... maybe.

But back to the train wreck....

The engine had two cylinders full of water.

It was clear water... but im sure that's not good.

The TH350 transmission might make someone a good core.

The rear end is a ford 9"... no idea what gear.

The frame is 20% coat hanger and booger welds.... really really scary.

The body is some where between cigarette ash and egg shells when it comes to structural integrity.

And the bondo.... oh god the bondo.

I hope I can find some one working with a good 30's chevy body that can salvage a curve or a body line in a patch panel.

I don't think it would work well, even on the rattiest of all rat rods.

Oh and the two rear wheels were cool.

That's about it.

In addition to all the obvious stuff, I liked the front suspension mounts with no triangulation.

Im starting to understand the frame butchery.

I think its a 1942-46 ford car frame.

1941 is similar and pictured below.

The middle X was split and bent back to the side rails to box them.

The front radius arms were flipped and attached to the dangerously wimpy scrap bracets scabbed to the frame sides.

The rear were just moved to the out side  to similarly bad brackets and booger welded to the 9" axle.

I'll have more pics in the AM.

Honestly Im just glad I'm killing this thing so that no one ever tries to use it as a base.

It never needed to see the light of day again as assembled, lest it no joke killed someone.

Maybe a few parts will live on.

Wow! If you don't make a challenge car out of it, at least give one of us a chance!

Its always the darkest before dawn.

Not always.

In this case, dawn revealed deeper darker issues....

Under this Floor, lurked may bad things.

At first I thought the x in the frame had been eliminated to accommodate the drivetrain.

Maybe it was done to accomidate channeling the body? Nope the floor was on top of the frame.

It was plain to see where the x members had been bent back in a crude attempt at boxing the frame.

But the question remained, why eliminate the x?

I poked around... found lot of things like the transmission crossmember:

Found dozens of cracks like these:

Amazing feats of booger welding:

Finally I found the worst problem, which was hidden quite well.

The x had been eliminated to shorten the frame.

AND when it was shortened, the ends were butt welded. No box, no plate, no gussets, no overlap.

And I have to show this too... just because lol

And... nah it's still pretty bad too.

Rat Rod Magazine is hosting a build-off. You could sell the body there. As for the chassis, well, kill it with fire is probably the best option.

Yeah the chassis is not going to exist in the end.

Kill it with fire = plasma cutter.

I might save the 9" chunk and ill try to find someone who wants the TH350.

I'll probably keep the rear wheels or give them away.

As for the engine... there are better... it has GALLONS of water ... remember, free can be very expensive.

Guys,

I've had a lot of requests here....

on and off the forum.

...so just FYI, I'm going to let the dust settle here for a bit before I let things go.

Except the frame.

The frame os going away. lol

I'm contemplating keeping all of the "good bits" (even the engine) in a pile so that there is a cohesive deal on a possible challenge nucleus for someone. There was also a late model steering column and a PS box and linkage.

On that note, is it indeed possible to have a starting negative balance if someone legit pays you to haul a car off?

Has this ever come up before?

As for the body which admittedly looks good in pictures, the buddy that had me move the car is considering doing something with it. But he's not sure. So it may or may not be included.

I might go ahead and pull the SBC heads off. Anyone want to see that?

Let me know!!
