Might be a hell of a deal, depending how they built the engine. But why do people go this far, then just stop?

It's not as easy a swap as it seems. Certainly not out of reach for many people here, but it usually involves some fiberglass work to the bulkhead to get it to fit, then there's fuel & cooling system modifications too.
Also IIRC there's an issue with the starter mounting unless you use one specific version of the Zetec, which I think was English-only. It's been 7 or 8 years since I sold mine, so the details are fuzzy.
Snowdoggie (Forum Supporter) said:$4,500? Wow. I got one of those for free a few years ago. Inflation?
Yeah that free one went up in price post Covid.
Sell the Zetec and put a proper Renault engine in it!
R16 with TS head can still be found.
Even R16 Turbo if you just cannot stand nearly original levels of performance.
In reply to RichardSIA :
This car never had a Renault engine. This is a very late Twin Cam car. Pushrod Ford Kent with stroker crank would be easiest solution.
